SMART Boards have been pushed for the last 15 years and I have yet to see any benefit with them compared to a chalkboard or marker board.

The SMART Boards provide so much more than just a writing surface and the possibilities and benefits are unlimited. This engaging technology allows students to interact with the lesson and work collaboratively with each other. The teachers can devise lessons that reach children with different learning styles. My son was in a class with a SMART Board and he flourished with the opportunities it provided. I could go on and on...let the website show you how useful and flexible they are. It was so interesting to me! www.Smarttech.com

Smart Board technology has come a long way over 15 years. Smart Boards help and enhance teaching as stimuli agents--agents that are able stir curiosity out of students instantly so that they pose, wonder and are motivated to work through problems. For example, students and teachers can quickly can access information on the internet as questions come up and present findings in real time. The teacher doesn't have to say, "I don't know the answer, let me get that later" . All students can see what is going on in an experiment when hooked up to a digital microscope. Worked out problems on the Board can be saved so students can re-visit them if they didn't understand the first time or were absent from school. The use of smart responders (hand held devices) let all students answer questions posed by the teacher at the same time so no one is left out. Encourages shy children to participate and allows motivated students to anwer all questions...the class reponses are shared immediately with students via a percentage graph. Teachers can quickly change and add to lesson plans. Instead of talking about a video clip the teacher saw on the news, they can show it. Captures attention of visual, kinesthetic , and auditory learners. Allows for collaberation between classes in your grade and to classrooms around the world.......Ask a teacher why they like Smart Boards...
