Ann Romney Tells Marquette Crowd Her Husband Will Stand for Women

Romney rallies crowd, saying Mitt Romney gave women key roles as Massachusetts governor.

Ann Romney told a crowd of supporters Thursday in Milwaukee that her husband is steadfast on protecting the economic and social interests of women.

Introduced by Wisconsin's First Lady Tonette Walker, Romney, flanked by an American flag and a banner that read "Wisconsin (hearts) Ann," roused a crowd of more than 200 supporters – most of whom were women – in the old gym on the Marquette University campus.

"He cares about women ... making the economy work for women," said the wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. "We need to have women understand Mitt is a person who cares."

He's "a person who will work harder than anyone, who will be there, and ... will not fail," she said.

Romney also introduced a number of women who served under her husband when he was governor of Massachusetts, pointing out that he is willing to give women key roles in his administration.

She also recounted for the crowd a time when her husband became close to a friend's son who was dying of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Ann Romney was in town the day after a new Marquette Law School poll showed her husband trailing President Barack Obama in the state by 14 percentage points among likely voters.

A poll by Qunnipiac University, the New York Times and CBS News showed the president leading Mitt Romney by 6 percentage points among likely Wisconsin voters.

The Romney campaign has struggled to connect with women, with a recent Pew poll showing Obama leading by 19 points among women. Another poll, YouGov, showed a narrowed margin, with Obama leading women by 6 points.

Before she took the stage, a number of female political leaders from around the state spoke. Republican state Sen. Leah Vukmir took exception to the "war on women" that Romney and conservatives have been accused of waging.

"What I see is an army of women," Vukmir said as she looked out into the crowd. "Our rights come from God and nature, and not from government."

"This election will be a referendum on our future," said Republican state Sen. Alberta Darling, who shouted "Forward," borrowing Obama's campaign slogan.

It was nice of Ann to show up and speak to the intelligent, well informed, and thinking voters of Wisconsin, as that's what you clearly meant with the "you people."

Contrast this to our President, who makes promises and then never follows through on them!

Where was Obama during the recall election effort? I don't recall seeing any pictures of Obama marching in the protest lines around the Capital in Madison during the occupation, do you? But he must have been there, because he promised that he would march right along side all you blue fisters, right?

Obama LIED to you and yet you still support him. That's a pretty sick relationship if you ask Hoffa!

Mr. Romney will stand for women:

He'll stand for them earning less than their male counterpart
He'll stand for them to get a medically un-neccessary proceedure if they wish a legally protected abortion
He'll stand for them to pay for thier own birth contol even if prescribed for a medical condition
He'll stand for them to carry to term a pregnancy even if it's a result of incest or rape
He'll stand for middle class women to pay more taxes in order to provide a tax cut to millionairs.

Romney stands for women alright. Too bad 50% of college educated women would like him to sit down.

What substantial information did Anne give relative to her husband's proposed support for women? He has said he doesn't care about 47% of all Americans...presumably at least half of them are women. I didn't hear her speech but beyond trying to convince people that her husband has a caring heart....what is he going to do for women? Who is the nut there that says women's rights come from God and nature...not the government? Women better hope the government has detailed their rights, will enforce their rights and will adjudicate in support of their rights. For millennia...on most of the planet God and nature were not enough to protect women's rights.

You claim to be a non-aligned observer, but you're not being very fair towards Romney in this comment.

To knowingly and intentionally take Romney's statements out of context plays right into the Obama and left-wing propaganda machine.

Romney was clearly discussing campaign targeting/strategy in the video wherein the 47% statement is derived. Of course he cares about ALL AMERICANS, and such is reflected in his policy positions.

Obama targets/strategizes his campaign as well, and yet, I hear no criticism from you. In fact, Obama came out and directly targeted African American voters:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdjoHA5ocwU

I can find no speech wherein Obama launched a White Americans for Obama campaign. Or Latin Americans for Obama. Or Asian Americans for Obama. Etc.

Using the logic that you've chosen to use against Romney, wouldn't this mean that Obama doesn't care about White Americans? Or Latin Americans? Or Mexican Americans? Etc?

Either be consistent with your unfairness or at least admit to your bias instead of claiming to be "a non-aligned observer."

Thanks!
