Why? You really do like the idea of pushing a bolder up a hill? I'm not a gun owner, but this isn't about guns, its about religious and ethnic intolerance. When Michelle Bachman can accuse a high level person in the State Department as a "possible" terrorist mole only because her father new someone, who know someone, who know someone that was a muslim extremist? Its about our attitude and inability to counter wreckless comments like that of Ms. Bachman.

@Robert E, I see Brian Carlson has no problem with your attack on Christians, but I post facts about the violent nature of Sikh youth and I get hammered. Ask a resident of Vancouver their feelings towards Sikh youth...I was there for work when all of this Oak Creek stuff happened. Let me tell you, the Canadians don't like Sikh's.

Remember Sikh traditions are steeped in confrontational, warrior values, and those values are taught to young men from birth. These young Sikh’s grow into a culture that thrives on bravado, a culture where everything is a grudge match, a fight to the finish. Those are the Sikh people; don’t forget that point as you’re mourning their unfortunate demise this past weekend.

@ AWD... A slow awakening by the consciousness of people are beginning to take sobriety. England has reinstated their Fox hunting sports and Germany now actively seeks out right wing nuts. They deport them or incarcerate them. Cost of ignoring them is no longer acceptable to the sentient altruism of our humanities.
They may hide, camouflage, avatar their existence, etcetera. In the end whether it be under a rock, in a hole, they will be routed out for the peace and security of our society.

Brian Carlson

Your cultural projection is particularly obvious. From your previous writings, confrontational, "warrior" values....the grudge match and a fight to the finish seem in line with your personal outlook, character and values. Do you know a single Sikh? You write with presumed authority... Please share the basis of this knowledge. Google for a few minutes? These people were all innocent Americans and you should be ashamed of your ugly words.

The phrase "spiritual warrior" is very popular in other religions and is symbolic. Sihks are to be devoted to social justice FOR ALL... among their highest goals.

Easy there big fella, The International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF), Objectives
Working towards the establishment of an independent homeland for the Sikhs is the chief aim of the organization. The US State Department's annual Patterns of Global Terrorism, in 1999, lists the ISYF as an ACTIVE terrorist organization that aspires to carve out of Indian territory an independent Sikh state called Khalistan. Like I said, India's version of the Skinheads...Timothy McVeighs with head wraps on.

@Taoist -

Are you implying that Hoffa is a bigot? Hoffa RESENTS that sir! By making such unfounded, indirect, and inferential assertions, you're just as guilty as spreading hate as you accuse others of being. HYPOCRITE! Do us all a favor and grow up already!

While AWD does make some valid and factual points, they do not in large part apply to the Sikh population living in America today.

I believe that AWD is merely trying to set the record straight in that the Sikh religion in general is not as wholly peaceful or benign as the current media is reporting they are. Like many of the world's religions, the Sikh's also have a history of violence and bloodshed on their hands - the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi comes to mind. The Sikh's also have an anti-social extremist element within their membership.

While it's important to stay mindful and keep a close eye on those who are up to no good and would do us or others whom they disagree with harm, it's also an injustice to characterize the religion as a whole based on the actions of the extremist elements, as is true of most of the world's major religions.

There is nothing to suggest otherwise that the congregation of the Oak Creek Temple are in fact a peaceful and benign faction of the Sikh religion. Irregardless, the events that took place at the Temple were indeed a tragedy by any standard and should be mourned by all Americans.

You may now go back to spreading the hate Taoist!

I walked through Oklahoma City following the bombing there. In speaking against all Sikhs, by inference, based on your information about a tiny fraction, you could use the same logic to accuse all Christians of any KKK activities or history. This is absolutely unsupportable bullshit you are spreading AWD, and you do so on a site read by the citizens of Oak Creek, who have just experienced an horrific act of violence against humanity in their own hometown. As I have said...you should be ashamed. I doubt, from the writing, that you have that capacity. I regret that anyone has to read your statement about McVeigh... particularly the Sikhs, but all people who recognize that we are all one human family.

AWD....now you speak for Canada? This is amazing. And are Canadian Sikhs included in not liking themselves. The bottom line is you don't recognize anyone beyond your myopic vision as legitimate. Period. You isolate one group..the ISYF and claim our State Department....(which is an authority on global terrorism as it is so deeply involved in same) has determined this is a terrorist group. Not 30 million followers of the fifth largest religion but one group who uses this name. Thats like saying the Christian Church is racist because the KKK claims to be a Christian organization.

Not to say that there is any justification for this shooting, but the photo of the church head is way too arrogant! It wasn't a mug shot or DMV photo where you should be upset, he posed for that! Look at it again and you can see hatred in his eyes! bye the way these foreigners start their gas stations and pay no taxes for 7 years then pass it on to a relative for 7 years and so forth. Thanks AWD. The only thing I can find regarding Sikh violence is waged against the Muslims in Asia. All my research regarding the faith has shown a very peaceful religion, some of their lessons are from the Koran (which is not too different from the Old Testament in the Holy Bible).
Nothing I can find points to any threat to American freedoms.
You had me hook, line, and sinker for a while there.

One more thought. I prefer that the assailants or murders name never be mentioned. Sorta of a Jesse James thing with me. Dirty scoundrel that shot Jessie in the back works for me. Okalahoma bombing by the cowardly evil under handed, no good for nothing, stuff like that but never the name of the pervert. Leave that for their graves if any.
