Fox Point Police Getting Two New Squads

A Crown Victoria and Ford Expendition will soon join the department's fleet.

The Fox Point Police Department is purchasing two new vehicles to add to its fleet: a Ford Crown Victoria for $23,162 and a Ford Expedition for $25,793.

Police Chief Tom Czaja said the vehicles are rotated roughly every two years, and have about 70,000 miles on them when they are replaced.

"In the past, we have experienced major repairs on squads around 70,000 (miles) - replacing transmissions and manifold covers, which is very expensive," he said.

The village requested bids from six different dealers, but the only one to reply was the Ewald Automotive Group.

"The unmarked squads are replaced every three years and then kept for our detective and school or court use," Czaja explained. "Normally, the unmarked squads are six years old when we sell them."

The total $48,955 cost was about $10,000 less than the  $58,800 earmarked for the vehicles in the 2011 budget.
