Girls Basketball Team Earns 35th Consecutive Win
Boys basketball drops two games, leaving the Knights with a 2-2 record.
The Nicolet High School boys basketball team is now 2-2 after dropping a pair of games last weekend at Homestead 62-56 and in the NY2LA Tournament vs. West Allis Central on Saturday at Homestead High School 69-52. In the Homestead game, Eugene Bonner put up 24 points and Greg Pigg chipped in 13. Against Central, Tyler Miller scored 20 and Corey Smith added 11. The Boys will play at Milwaukee Lutheran on Tuesday and will host Port Washington on Friday (Frosh and JV at 5:45 p.m. and Varsity at 7:30 p.m).
The girls basketball team hosted Homestead in the conference opener on Friday and won decisively 49-13 to earn their 35th consecutive North Shore Conference win. Brittney Fair was the Lady Knights leading scorer with 24 points. The team then went to Homestead High School on Saturday for the NY2LA tournament and defeated ranked DSHA 48-47 behind Fair's 30 points. Courtney Smith added eight as the team went to 3-0 on the season. This week, the fifth ranked Lady Knights will host Milwaukee Lutheran on Tuesday and travel to Port Washington on Friday.
The boys swim and dive team defeated Milwaukee Lutheran last Tuesday night 58-36 and 11-0 in varsity and junior varsity competition. Winning events for the Knights were Charlie Abram, Danny Lerner, Jack Cook, Nick Harris, Idan Ben-Yitscak and Greg Hortsmeier. This week, the team will swim at West Bend East on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and host Port Washington on Friday.
The wrestling team defeated Milwaukee Lutheran on Thursday last week and continue to look good in the early season. In the victory over the Red Knights of Lutheran, they won seven of the eight matches wrestled and emerged with a 31-24 win. On Saturday the team traveled to Sheboygan Falls in a six team battle. Going 5-0 on the day was Jon McKay at 220 and Wilhelm Fehlhaber at 160. Taking second with a 4-1 record was Dan Isaacson at 132 and Jack Kalloch at 106. Also wrestling well was Bryan Dineen at 138 and Lamonte Brown at 152. This week Port Washington will come to wrestle us at Nicolet on Wednesday. Varsity will start around 7 p.m. The following week Nicolet will travel to Homestead on Tuesday.
The Nicolet/University School Girls Hockey Co-Op team competed in a tournament at University School of Milwaukee last weekend. In the opening game, the team defeated Kettle Moraine 5-3. Junior Laine Tomesch scored a goal late in the first period to contribute to the victory. In the second game of the tourney, the girls beat Stoughton 5-1. Again Tomesch scored early in the game to give her team a lift. Nicolet Senior Abby Berman also scored a goal to give the team a 3-0 lead. The Girls then defeated Rock County 3-1 to win the tournament championship. The win gave them a 7-2 overall record with their next game against Fond Du Lac on Dec. 22 at USM.
The Nicolet/Whitefish Bay Boys Hockey Co-Op team faced Catholic Memorial last Wednesday and won 5-3. They tied Beloit Memorial on Friday 3-3 then lost to Homestead on Saturday 5-2. This week, the team will skate on Wednesday
at the Kern Center vs. Greendale, with varsity at 7 p.m. and frosh at 9 p.m.
The gymnastics team competed in their first meet of the season last Wednesday at home vs. Grafton/Cedarburg and this week will travel to Menomonee Falls for a conference meet on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

The Nicolet Dance Team dominated at the "It's Showtime" professional dance competition at UW-Steven's Point this past Saturday, placing first in the Pom Category and winning a free bid to Nationals in Texas this coming March. Senior Rebecca Johnson placed first overall in the High School Solo Division and won a "Championship" award for her outstanding solo routine. Senior Emily Eiseman placed fourth overall in the High School Solo Division and won a "wow" award from the director of the competition for her expressive solo. Senior Kori Hudson was also awarded a "wow" award for her fabulous performance abilities. The team continued their dominance by placing fourth overall in the Kick and Hip Hop categories. This Saturday, the dance team will be traveling to Little Chute to compete in the Little Chute Winter Invitational.
