Hundreds Walk to Help Audrey
Audrey Parrott was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and although her family has only lived in the school district for a year, hundreds banded together to raise more than $7,000 for her ongoing medical costs Sunday.
Roughly 500 people ran and walked Sunday, many with puppies in hand, to help Audrey Parrott, the 8-year-old Stormonth student who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in early October.
In just 2 ½ weeks, Nicolet High School students Jared Smith and Jessica Luecke organized the 5K Run/Walk to raise money to purchase Audrey a wig and help her family with mounting medical bills.
"I'm amazed that these high schools kids put this together as quickly as they did," Dan Westfahl, Stormonth Elementary principal said. "Seeing how the community has rallied around, we're estimating there's been 500 people here at least."
Nearly a dozen tables were covered with gift baskets, signed baseball bats, Nooks and more for the raffle. As Audrey made her way from box to box drawing the names, she smiled as people cheered for the winners. There were also 300 T-shirts donated from Ink to the People, another 50 T-shirts from Eggers, Starbucks offered free coffee and there were bagels from Brueggers.

There was no registration fee for the race, so from donations alone more than $7,000 was raised for Audrey and her family. Westfahl said the Parrotts only moved into the district a year ago, but that isn't stopping the community from rallying around this little girl.
"They moved in last year and you've seen it already today, they're just overwhelmed with the amount of support and people just coming to say hi, touch base with them, saying I want to meet this family and know who they are. It's pretty incredible," he said.
If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation, checks can be made out to Ferrante's, 10404 N. Port Washington Rd., Mequon, Attn: Suzy. You can also make a donation on the Help Audrey website here.
