A car was stopped for a red light at West Brown Deer Road and North Port Washington Road in Bayside at 3 a.m. March 29. When the lights for vehicles going straight turned green, but the left turn arrow stayed red, a 29-year-old Milwaukee man began to go about six yards, and then stopped. A Bayside police officer passing through ran the license plates and discovered they were suspended due to unpaid citations.

When the officer approached the driver to talk about why he was pulled over, there was the scent of alcohol emitting from the driver's breath. His eyes were extremely watery and bloodshot, according to the report.

The officer asked the driver how much he had to drink, and he said "a little." When asked how much is a little, he said he had a couple of beers. The driver was asked to recite the alphabet and could not complete the task in appropriate order.

As the officer looked inside the vehicle, there were several liquor bottles open. After failing the field sobriety tests, the man was arrested. His vehicle was left in the parking lot and the open intoxicants were removed from the vehicle and destroyed at the station. When asked if he would provide a breath sample, he said, “What’s the difference, I’m drunk.”

He had a BAC of 0.23 and was issued three citations: operating while intoxicated, BAC greater than 0.08, and for driving an unregistered vehicle.
