Nicolet defeated Whitefish Bay 17-12 on Friday in a hard-fought, physical game to advance to the state high school rugby tournament.
The Knights rallied from a 12-5 halftime deficit in the game. Also advancing to the four-team state tournament from the south region is Muskego. Two other teams qualify from the north region.
The tournament is Sunday at the Wisconsin Rugby Club's new complex in Cottage Grove, near Madison.
