Nicolet Wins State Rugby Championship
Knights limit two opponents to 10 total points in two games.
On a hot and humid Sunday in Cottage Grove, Nicolet High School dominated Little Chute 31-7 and came away with the Wisconsin Division I State Rugby Championship in the high school division.
Nicolet last won a state title in 2008, beating Pulaski. The last two years, Pulaski eliminated Nicolet, once in the championship game and once in the semifinals. They met again in Saturday's semifinals, and Nicolet controlled the clock and played strong defense in a 14-3 win.
In Sunday's game, more than 25 former Nicolet ruggers led the team onto the field. Coach James Davis said the game got off to a slow start in the muggy conditions, but Nicolet eventually wore down Little Chute to win by a comfortable margin.
Players on the state championship team are: Troy Roberson, Jon McKay, Jevell Rollins, Cory Chapman, Bernard Stutts, Alec Jones, Mike Noonan, Dez Fowler, Hunter Crass, Tyler Crass, Keondre Walton-Cooper, Bryce Bowen, Delton Clay, Sam Frankenthal, Kellen Carey, Sufder Rizvi, Matt Houde, Dakota Mitchell and Bryan Dineen.

I watched the game from the sideline and all I can say is one of the worst officiated games i have witnessed.

Which game — the semifinal or championship? On a side note, one of the Nicolet players is an assistant in my son's elementary PE class and he was excited to see the player with his championship medal. Congratulations to the team.
