Obama Carries Fox Point and Bayside

Following voting trends for the last three presidential elections, both Fox Point and Bayside voted in favor of Democratic candidates by a close margin.

Fox Point and Bayside sided with the big winners Tuesday night, supporting President Barack Obama and Senator-elect Tammy Baldwin, both Democrats.

Bayside broke Democrat in every race, though by narrow margins in some. Congresswoman Gwen Moore outpolled Dan Sebring 1,298-1,185 in the race for the U.S. House of Representatives in District 4, while Cris Rogers edged overall winner Jim Ott 1,334-1,307 in the State Assembly 23rd District.

Fox Point narrowly supported GOP candidates in the District 4 race, as Sebring edged Moore by 100 votes; and in the state 23rd District race, with Ott outpolling Rogers by 107 votes.

Ott, from Mequon, is a new face for Whitefish Bay, Fox Point and Bayside, due to new redistricting boundaries.

The presidential margins in both communities were similar to 2000, 2004 and 2008, when each supported Democratic candidates.

Turnout approached 90 percent in Fox Point and Bayside, with big lines early in the day.

"The line was curling all the way around the building (at Longacre Pavilion)," said Barb Mueller, chief election inspector in Fox Point. "A few times all the voting booths were full for us, but here, having to wait is unusual."

But voters experienced few if any problems at local polling places. At Bayside Middle School, some voting machines would jam when the bins collecting ballots would fill up. And both communities experience some “over-voting,” with citizens choosing more than one candidate for a race.

Here are ward-by-ward breakdowns for how both communities voted Tuesday. Results are not official until they are canvassed.

I'm very excited about the Obama victory. I've worked hard to get out the vote. I can only hope this will shut Bob McBride up for just a few days as I find his incessant complaining and crying very unappealing an very unmanly. I just hope for at least one week we have some change on the Patch comments that excludes Bob's whining.

I have canvassed a lot also--talking to many folks. It was fun--and trying at times but mostly rewarding to see the end results.

I listened to a very, very interesting interview on NPR (1st link) by Michael Lewis who spent 6 months interviewing and shadowing President Obama. Even the president said he was shocked at the roadblocks put up/tactics employed by opposing interests every time an initiative was put forth. DEFINITELY worth listening to for a true or as true as possible insight of what President Obama is faced with in office.
