State Fair Kicks Off Thursday
The Wisconsin State Fair begins Thursday, starting 11 days of activities at State Fair Park. Some new things are in store—including new youth admission policies—and old favorites continue to draw fairgoers.
From trying the newest food on a stick to the rides or visiting animals, everyone who goes to the Wisconsin State Fair seems to have their favorites.
Last year's fair got extra attention for racially-charged violence, and this year organizers are taking steps to prepare for crowds that get out of hand. West Allis Now has a look at what that means, like a police command post, more cameras and the continued rule that no one under age 18 can be admitted after 5 p.m. without a parent or guardian.
Patch has already asked you which of the new foods at the fair this year you're most likely to try (as of 3:30 p.m. Monday it was a tie between the Deluxe Deep Fried Bacon Wrapped Cheddar Hot Dog On-a-Stick from Apollo Gyros and the Firecracker Chicken On-a-Stick (Mesquite Jalapeno Cornbread Batter-Fried Chicken) from the Machine Shed. They should move the State fair a county or two north into a more rural setting. Maybe the gang bangers wouldn't be willing to drive that far. Perhaps something with a big pond in the center where people can drive bumper boats in.
