Not suggesting a government takeover at all.

But competitive tax rates and repeal of Obamacare would probably go a long towards convincing businesses to stay here as opposed to outsource - at least that's what a majority of the business community has been saying over the last four years!

Romney's not in a position to do anything. Obama is.

Obama has bungled the war in Afghanistan and let politics influence his strategy at every turn. Benghazi was Obama’s “red phone” moment, and he failed. Now the Benghazi incident has the capacity to undermine Obama’s entire foreign policy record.

The Muslim Brotherhood is running the show, and every official in the U.S. from the White House to Foggy Bottom appear to be bystanders while the most important country in the Arab world turns into an Islamist theocracy. Romney will undoubtedly point to Obama’s rudderless foreign policy, and how it has sapped support from the moderates America had hoped would take the reins of power

Now he's pretending to attack China, "currency manipulators," while at the same time he enjoys the profits of all of his investments in Chinese companies. And yes, we are well aware of the trade deficit with China and currency issues. Why is Romney pretending this is all new information?

Hard to take this one seriously.

As Romney explained, he was referring to Russia in a geopolitical context, as opposed to an issue pertaining to our national security.

We know that it's hard for you to make such distinctions in account for context, despite being the self-declared "superior intellect."

Every Marine is still issued a bayonet - I wonder if Obama realized this when he was trying to talk down to Romney? VERY UNPRESIDENTIAL by-the-way!

And yet, you think that Obama is getting tough with China? As Romney pointed out, and Obama did not dispute, the trade imbalance with China has been growing larger every year of the Obama administration.

Hard to take Obama seriously, isn't it?

Bottom line - Obama isn't getting tough enough with China and Romney is willing to!

Comment_arrow

Bren

9:25 am on Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Mr. Hoffa, I want a president I don't have to apologize or explain for as you are trying to do for Mitt Romney. He's on the record, I don't think anyone believed he meant that Russia was our greatest threat in say, a sports context. I thought the bayonet line was hilarious! Most of us understood, I think, the historical context of what the president was describing. Just what we need right now, to throw more money at the military industrial complex that Pres. Eisenhower warned about.

And again, why pretend to be upset with China when he and Bain have investments in Chinese companies, one for certain that is located on subsidized government land, creating the very unfair business practices which he purports to oppose? Please. Not to be crass, but I think it's time to build another Romney outhouse, this one's full. We're going to have a problem with China as long as businesses keep offshoring jobs and people keep buying cheap Chinese products. Since these practices aren't illegal, it's going to take self-discipline to slow the trend. Who is willing to do that?

POST BANKRUPTCY... you uncomprehending buffoon!

This is way out of CONTEXT!

Willard was writing about AFTER the BANKRUPTCY - when GM would have divested itself of ALL people, property and debt - when GM, as an entity, would no longer exist!

He then wanted to set up an entity and structure ONLY to handle the outstanding warranties on GM vehicles, with TAXPAYER MONEY!

So, EVERYTHING you do not understand is a LIE?

Who are those (3) Stooges you keep putting at the end of your comments, your brothers?

It would seem that not only are you intellectually challenged, comprehension challenged, but English writing challenged as well!

Wilson- What are you smoking. Bankruptcy doesn't mean to dissolve a company. Obama did what he did, bending bankruptcy rules just to save the UAW, not the company. Spin it anyway you want, but that is how it went down. Just ask the non-union workers at Delphi how his bailout to save the UAW screwed them.

Wilson- For being so ignorant, you sure are cocky. Bankruptcy is debt reorganization in most cases and doesn't dissolve a company unless they cannot get an arbitrated agreement to reorganize. Such was the case with GM and Chrysler. As usual, you are clueless. The only reason Obummer stepped in was to protect the UAW from having to open up their contract, which would have occurred in a usual bankruptcy case. Like usual, Obummer was doing a favor for the union that poured millions into his campaign. But under his plan, those not covered by the union were exposed to loss of jobs, loss of pensions, etc...

Keep opening up your mouth so we can keep putting your foot in it.

Boffa –

GM & Chrysler were both at the brink of shutting down; they had no money, no one in the private arena wanted to touch them, not even Bain, the consummate vulture Capitalist. They were DEAD. Filing for Chapter 11 only prolongs the agony, as it all has to be APPROVED by the COURTS; no court would have approved their Chapter 11 Bankruptcy plan as the only way they could restructure – seeing, as no one would give them or loan them any money – was to sell off all their assets. Put another way, they had NO VIABLE way to stay in existence unless the Great President Obama got them TAXPAYER MONEY, as the entire private sector had abandoned them.

Filing for Chapter 11 is FINE; getting a bankruptcy judge to APPROVE the PLAN is something else entirely. [I am sure the creditors would have been happy to see their money go away, while GM & Chrysler went through year of plans, not paying them anything.] Yes, this could have strung itself out over many years, as they brought forth ever greater stupid plans to get the judge to approve their plan; during those years of submitting further stupid and unworkable plans for approval, everything would have fallen apart…

President Obama saved the automotive manufacturing base in America; Robo Willard would have had it all sold off in pieces, and made 1.5+ million people unemployed. Now, as he is headed to planet Kolob, he wants to LIE and attempt to steal President Obama’s accomplishment… typical Republican…

There are many forms of bankruptcy, Chapter 11 reorganization is but ONE of them!

“and doesn’t dissolve a company UNLESS they CANNOT GET AN ARBITRATED AGREEMENT TO REORGANIZE.” [Caps are mine.]

What is it about these 2 companies, NOT BEING ABLE TO GET AN ARBITRATED AGREEMENT TO REORGANIZE that you & Boffa don’t understand?

No court would grant them permission to REORGANIZE, as they never had a VIABLE PLAN!

President Obama rescued them; Robo Willard and a few Republic sycophants, merely want to steal and claim credit for this accomplishment.

Now that is IGNORANT!

@Craig, Steve and JRH...I've been quiet because of the extreme partisanship that's on display. Continued hammering will not change the outcome of the upcoming election. However, I did take away some thoughts on last night's debate.
First: Obama is a strategic thinker and Romney is a tactical thinker. One of the things I have been critical of over the last four decades has been businesses ever narrowing window of long term planning. It has resulted in getting the largest ROI in the shortest amount of time without regards to the long term future. Romney is just that sort of planner, clearly taught at the Harvard 'B' School, Wharton School and University of Chicago.
Second: Romney is seriously lacking in long term understanding of the military requirements needed for the future. Two trillion in additional spending will not change the game except to push us further into an over sized military and too large a chunk of the federal budget. Clearly, failed neo-con thinking. I seriously question whether or not we currently need 11 Nimitz Class Aircraft Carriers and that we should downsize to 6 CVN-21 Carriers and refocus on the littoral class of ships for the upcoming challenges to our strategic interests. We also need to cut from our inventory the B1-B, the F22, F15, F16 and F18 and replace them with F35-A,B,C and D models.

These are just a few of my thoughts prompted by the debate.

Wilson- Why don't you try something different and try to gather up some semblance of intelligence. I know it might be hard, but you just might have something to offer.

The polls (numerous) Have Romney at a solid 191 electoral votes and Obama 186 electoral votes. Solid is described as consistent leads above the margin of errors. Romney is leading above the margin of error in Fl. and most experts say that will go Romney. It is dead even in PA and OH and Romney having slight leads in CO and NV, on a steady trend upward for Romney. That brings the electoral vote count to 278. WI is also trending upward with the latest Gallup poll at 48 - 47 Obama, but in a three week trend Romney erased a double digit advantage in a mostly red state.

Even losing WI, it is 278. And we are not even counting Virginia with Romney holding a 6 pt. lead. If WI and VA swing Romney, Romney can lose either Ohio or Pennsylvania and still win with 276. The important note is that all states mentioned here were considered weak Obama and have trended Romney since the debates began.

Those are the facts Wilson. Independents are moving Romney in every swing state. This almosts mirrors the 1980 Reagan/Carter race. If it turns out the same, you are looking at 306 Romney, or a landslide. I'm not predicting that to happen, but I stand by 278.

Consider these facts before you vote:
1. Is the economy better off now than it was four years ago? Based on the evidence, I'd have to say no. Wages are down, the the prices of everything we buy is up. The price of gas has doubled. Good jobs are scarce.
2. Are the slight "up tics" in the economy a solid trend in the right direction? I don't think so. First, the gains are very slight. Second, I believe they are the result in the temporary stimulus by the Federal Reserve, in which they printed a lot of new money. It provides a slight bump now, but the cost will come later - after the election. Ben Bernanke is trying to save Obama's job, along with his own.
3. The continual misrepresentation of Romney on the auto bailout by the Obama administration. Obama appears to be taking complete credit for the bailout, while simultaneously saying that Romney was for liquidation of the auto industry. This is an absolute falsehood. It was Bush who initiated the bailout and TARP. Obama continued it and then expanded it, to his credit. However, Romney was one of the first to say that the industry needed to go through bankruptcy reorganization, and eventually they did exactly that. He also said that any needed loans should come from the private sector. He never said that the industry should be liquidated, or that he would deny federal funds if he were president, and private sector funds were not available. Obama lies!
4. The Benghazi coverup and lies.
