USM Golfers Brave the Cold to Take Home a Win

Wildcats win the Pacer Invitational Thursday.

The golf team opened its season Thursday by participating in the Pacer Invitational hosted by Shoreland Lutheran at the Brighton Dale Links Blue Spruce golf course in Brighton, WI.  USM won the meet on the Par 72 course.

USM’s winning total was 241 shots on a cold, windy day that was not befitting a golf outing.  Shoreland Lutheran placed second with 261. The Prairie School with 285 shots took third followed by St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy with 295, Burlington Catholic Central with 296, Racine Lutheran with 304, University Lake School with 338 and Lake Country Lutheran with 370 total shots.

The meet had a unique format. Groups of two from each school played holes 1-6 in scramble format; holes 7-12 in best ball format and holes 13-18 in alternate shot format. USM’s Noah Mandel and Andrew Hattersley were the winning team of two with a score of 75. Shoreland Lutheran’s team of Eliot Jones and Brandon Scheppa took second with a 78. Lake Country Lutheran two player team of Aaron Sondermann and Matthew Babel placed third with a score of 80.  USM’s Dan Mandel and Zach Hafeman finished with an 82 and USM’s Greg Booth and Milton Padway had an 84.
