When is the Biden vs. Ryan Vice Presidential Debate?

After an opening debate performance by President Obama that pundits called lackluster, the stakes raised as Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan face off on Thursday.

What many observers are calling a lackluster presidential debate earlier this week has raised the stakes of the only vice presidential debate, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 11, at Centre College in Danville, KY.

Vice President Joe Biden and Wisconsin U.S. Paul Ryan will debate for an hour and one-half on Thursday, beginning at 8 p.m. CDT.

The vice presidential debate comes one week after pundits across the country, including Patch's panel of Wisconsin political insiders, said GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney was the clear winner in the debate.

Wall Street Journal editors and reporters said in Friday’s “Roundtable” that Biden’s mandate to be combative is “overwhelming” and that he needs to demand specifics about claims Romney made Wednesday, including one that there will be no tax cut that adds to the deficit.

Biden needs to question Romney’s math, “which the president skated up to and then pulled back from,” said Jerry Seib, Journal bureau chief.

They expect Ryan to play a “truth squad” role, something Romney did to a limited extent, and bring energy to the debate.

With the Nov. 6 election a month away, Romney still has time to close the narrow margin separating the two campaigns.

Truth squad role similar to Romney? That's funny. What part of the truth did Romney tell in his debate?

Let's give you something fresh. Romney's speech yesterday that Obama signed no major trade agreements in four years. How about three?

Romney must think you guys are idiots. Then again...

Lie #1 “What we do have right now is a setting where I’d like to bring money from overseas back to this country.”

Romney’s plan to shift the country to a territorial tax system would allow corporations to do business and make profits overseas without ever being taxed on it in the United States. This encourages American companies to invest abroad and could cost the country up to 800,000 jobs.

@Keith.... Companies are moving their official corporate headquarters overseas to lower their tax burden. They are moving away in spite of the 'giant electrified double razor barbed wire fence' style law that Congress designed and built, in '04,' to prevent US corporations from 'escaping'.

I hope they focus on the long term spending liabilities. I'm bummed Obama's team has tried scaring the elderly when Romney/Ryan and Alice Rivlin's teams have made crystal clear current retirees and those close to retirement will NOT be effected.

Just google "CBO entitlement projections" or check out Alice Rivlin's (who's a democrat) groups website. We need to make adjustments since (i) we are living much longer; (ii) demographics have changes, (iii) health care costs has spiralled and more.

I wasn't a fan of Ryan's voucher plan since believe in a solid safety net, but just this weekend read in the NY Times:

“Most people don’t realize Medicare covers much less than traditional employer plans,” Sunit Patel, senior vice president in Fidelity’s benefits consulting group. “The $240,000 number captures the Part B premium for physician services, Part D for prescription drugs. Then there are deductibles and coinsurance, and benefits that are not covered like vision exams, hearing aids.”

It covers only 51 percent of health care services, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute.

What? If that's the case, the focus should be controlling COSTS. Why did obama focus on health insurance reform vs COSTs (and jobs and housing). Tort reform, incentives, etc. Tax reform & spending reform now. Period.

@splinter Obamacare was corrupted from the start. The health care providers'lobbyists got to the White House before the health care insurance lobbyists did. They made a secret 150 billion dollar deal before the bill was sent to Congress. That is why health care costs were never addressed.

Anything can happen in a debate and Biden has been doing them for years. But let's NOT forget Biden is the guy who said "it's about a 3 letter word, J-O-B-S". And Biden was the guy who told a guy in a wheelchair to stand up and be recognized. And visited a city claiming to visit a restaurant there whenever he's in town, but it closed years ago.
Sarah Palin has way more smarts than Biden. This was only a small sample of what has come from Biden.

Biden is going to destroy Ryan! He's much smarter and a way better public speaker. Yes, Biden may have his gaffes and put his foot in his mouth sometimes, but Ryan can't take facts and evidence at all!! He couldn't even handle a local reporter in Flint, MI hows he going to handle the VP of the US!!!

Romney lie #2:

“[G]et us energy independent, North American energy independent. That creates about 4 million jobs”.

Romney’s plan for “energy independence” actually relies heavily on a study that assumes the U.S. continues with fuel efficiency standards set by the Obama administration. For instance, he uses Citigroup research based off the assumption that “‘the United States will continue with strict fuel economy standards that will lower its oil demand.” Since he promises to undo the Obama administration’s new fuel efficiency standards, he would cut oil consumption savings of 2 million barrels per day by 2025.

That's nice, Keith.

BTW, are you ever going to pay Hoffa the 50 bucks you owe him? Doing so would at least eliminate a portion of the argument that you, yourself, are a lying s-o-s.
