Whiz Kid of the Week: 5th and 6th Graders Raise Money for Whooping Cranes and Earthquake Relief Effort
Teacher's donated baked goods and students worked all three lunch periods everyday to raise money.

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment:
These kids have raised $500 in three days for endangered whooping cranes through a bake sale. Their original goal was only $50, but once they exceeded that goal, they decided to help the vicitms of the earthquake in Japan.
Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness:
The students studied whooping cranes and wanted to help raise money that would assist them in reaching Florida safely. "When so many teachers helped bake over the weekend, and brought an enormous amount of food we made our goal in 20 minutes," Lisa Chase, special education teacher said.
All the money that was raised after that first hour, is being donated to the survivors of the earth quake and tsunami in Japan. The children will have worked the bake sale for five days, with three lunch hours every day. One of the students' classmates is from Japan, and still has family there.
"We hope to aid them specifically," Chase said.

You students rock!! It is such a great feeling to help out others in need. All of your preparation and planning has paid off and you have done a fantastic job. I know that you used your good communication skills to get others to donate, to advertise, and to make daily announcements at school. Your school community is very proud of all of you!

I am honored to work with a teacher as dedicated as Ms. Chase. She continues to inspire her students to go that extra mile. By aiding Japan in its time of dire need, Ms. Chase is also planting the seeds of global awareness and respect for other cultures. World peace starts right at Maple Dale School!
