This would be a great weekend to start bring some of your beloved annuals plants into the house to be overwintered.
Asparagus Ferns, Begonias, Geraniums, Coleus and Impatiens are easy plants to overwinter.
Take into consideration the space you have available to overwinter these plants. They will need a sunny location, fairly warm, but out of direct drafts and away from any heat sources. You also need to check the health of any plants you bring into the house. If they are in decline, they will continue to decline, and may not be worth overwintering.
If space is limited, plants can be overwintered in your basement, near a south facing basement window. Just remember that they need to be watered a least every 7-10 days. Don't fertilize now, wait until we are closer to spring, and the days are gradually growing longer. Don't become alarmed if after bring these plants in, they drop some leaves. This is normal after transplanting and as they try to acclimate to less sun and lower temperatures.
With a little care, these plants will thrive and be ready for next year's growing season. Happy Fall Gardening.
