Sinatra Sings Sinatra Nov. 2 at the Pabst as Part of Salvation Army Campaign

The Advisory Board of The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County has announced that the Annual Red Kettle Benefit Concert will feature a performance by Frank Sinatra, Jr. on Fri., Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee.

Tickets will go on sale at noon on Fri., Sept. 7, and can be purchased for $125, $85, and $60 by calling 414-286-3663 or visit www.SAmilwaukee.org.

"Sinatra Sings Sinatra" features songs that Frank Sinatra sang in over 50 years of performing, many of which Sinatra Jr. witnessed first hand. A portion of the show includes a photo gallery depicting Sinatra's "look" throughout each decade while Sinatra, Jr. sings the songs that best represented the times. The show includes such classics as "I've Got You Under My Skin," "One For My Baby," "New York, New York," "Luck Be A Lady" and "Strangers In The Night."

"With this concert and our wonderful orchestra, we feel like we’re visiting old friends again," said Sinatra, Jr. "The people come to hear the music, so I always make sure the music is the real star of the show. I want the spotlight to shine on the individual musicians, as well as the singer."

Having performed for nearly 50 years himself in major clubs and showrooms throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, and England, Sinatra, Jr. has appeared on stage with such showbiz greats as George Burns, Phil Harris, Flip Wilson, and his father.

Throughout the 1960s and into the early-1990s, Sinatra Jr. appeared regularly in Las Vegas, opening for many stars in the main rooms and headlining in his own right in the lounges. In 1988, Sinatra Jr. joined his father’s staff as musical director and conductor. With five albums to his credit, Sinatra, Jr. has also appeared in films and television shows, including The Sopranos and Son of the Beach.

"Starting in November of each year and running through the end of December, Milwaukee County families are given the opportunity to give back through the donation of coins and bills to the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign," said Major Roger Ross, Salvation Army Milwaukee County Commander.

"The funds raised provide services to thousands of area residents, giving them an opportunity to not only have a joyous holiday season, but to also have access to other services throughout the year. This concert will enable people to not only support the programs and services offered by The Salvation Army, but enjoy an evening of music."

My husband & I saw Frank JR. in concert about 20 years ago. He was appearing in some small hotel/motel conference room in Waukesha or Milwaukee Counties. He was so-o-o-o boring I and several others in the audience almost fell alsleep. I remember struggling to keep my eyes open. For everyone's benefit, I sure hope he's injected some life into his shows. His stance was very much like that of his father's, and he did have a decent voice but that's where the similarities end. Frank SR. at least had some life in his voice and performance. Frank JR. on the other hand was very melancholic {& don't bother asking --- his dad was still alife so he wasn't in morning}. For everyone's sake I hope he's improved. Just saying . . .

I for one am looking forward to seeing Frank Sinatra Jr. He sounds very much like his father and I've heard he does a very nice show. I think it will be a festive kick off to the Christmas season and the Red Kettle campaign. Also, it's too bad you feel you have to trash a fundraiser for the Salvation Army that does so much to help people in need, not just at Christmas but year round.

It wasn't intended to trash the fundraiser. It was simply a comment on the star of the show. I agree - he does sound a lot like his father. It is just that Frank Sr. had more class. I sincerely hope the fund raiser is a smashing success and that the funds come rolling in.
