Eddie Bauer Closing Bayshore Store

The store will close on May 26, but another retailer is expected to be announced in the next couple weeks.

Eddie Bauer will close its store at Bayshore Town Center by May 26, which means its customers will have to drive to the Mayfair Mall location. Bayshore Town Center manager David Moss said another retailer is already expected to fill its space, and he expects to announce that new store in the next couple weeks. The news of Eddie Bauer's closing comes on the heels of Express opening in the space formerly occupied by Coldwater Creek. Icing By Claire's, a jewelery and accessories store, also plans to open later this summer in a previously vacant space between Apple and Chico's, Moss said. Express was previously Bayshore's most requested store, and Moss said its arrival is part of the mall's larger efforts to meet the constantly-evolving retail…

Sports Facility May Make Glendale Home

A new indoor sports facility may be headed to a Glendale location, according to a story in the Journal Sentinel.

North Shore residents may have a new place to take their game to with a newly proposed sports facility in Glendale, according to a story in the Journal Sentinel. A developer is courting the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation to get $440,000 in financing for a 25,000-square-foot building. The project is expected to cost $1.1 million for the Glendale building, which will be located at 2920 W. Vera Ave.

The Sale Might Be Over For Internet Shoppers If Federal Bill Passes

Attention online shoppers: You might have to pony up more cash for those online shopping sprees, if federal sales tax legislation becomes law.

Online shoppers, who enjoyed avoiding paying sales tax for their out-of-state purchases, probably won't be happy if a bill pending in Congress becomes law. The Marketplace Fairness Act, which passed 69-27 in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, allows states the authority, and option, of collecting taxes on Internet and catalog sales. The act does not create a new tax. But it does allow states the option of collecting the taxes, which they are already owed. However, the legislation does exempt small businesses that make less than $1 million from collecting the tax. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) voted for the bill, but Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) did not. “Today, I joined a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate in support of the Marketplace Fairness …

Last week, we told you that plans for a Chick-fil-A in Greendale have been put on the back burner, but that things are full speed ahead for another new restaurant in that village. Construction is under way for the Panther Pub & Eatery, which will be located on Broad Street in downtown Greendale.
