Here at Fox Point-Bayside Patch, we like to celebrate the accomplishments of our local children and teens. We seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. This week, we're showing off the eighth-grade Jazz students at Maple Dale Middle School, nominated by their teacher, Jamie Breiwick (JB). Lisa Chase's 5th and 6th grade class Maple Dale Middle School Whiz Kid's Accomplishment:These kids have raised $500 in three days for endangered whooping cranes through a bake sale. Their original goal was only $50, but once they exceeded that goal, they decided to help the vicitms of the earthquake in Japan. Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: The students studied whooping cranes and wanted to help raise money that would assist them in reaching Florida safely. Cassie Bence, 17 University School of Milwaukee Accomplishment: First Team Wisconsin All-State Ski Team. She's also an outstanding field hockey player and loves horseback riding. Key to Awesomeness: Cassie finished 5th in the Giant Slalom and 3rd in the Super G races at the Wisconsin State Ski Meet in February. Cassie said that she started skiing in the fourth grade with one of her friends and "I've loved it ever since." She said she might even ski in college, but isn't sure where she'd like to go yet. One of her inspirations is Olympic skier Julia Mancuso. "She's amazing," Cassie said. …
Grace Hussey, 17 Nicolet High School Accomplishment: Grace is auditioning to attend Emerson University in Boston for Musical theatre. She’s also in Nicolet’s production of "Urinetown" which opened on Feb. 4. "I have gotten to state and succeeded in Solo ensemble for singing," Grace said. Key to Awesomeness: "I was always interested in acting since I was a little girl. I wanted to go to Emerson because of its location, and its musical theatre focus." Her mother, Jackie, describes Grace as a great singer, and very, very talented.
