About this column:

Bayside Village Hall manager Andy Pederson talks about the happenings in village hall.
Bayside was recently recognized by Constant Contact for communicating and engaging with residents though the Bayside Buzz and Tuesday Talk.  In fact, we were named a 2012 All Star! This status is an annual designation that only 10 percent of Constant Contact users achieve.  The standards for becoming an All Star in 2012 were tougher than ever, the Village is proud to accomplished this goal.  Thanks for staying in touch!
Get your family and home ready for tornado season with the official Tornado App from the American Red Cross. The app puts everything you need to know about preparing for a tornado right at your fingertips, and also sounds an alarm when a tornado warning is issued for your location, even when the app is closed. The Village tests its siren every Saturday at noon, and Milwaukee County tests every second Wednesday of the month.  However, as tornado season approaches, please be aware that sirens will not be tested if there is a severe weather warning in the area as not to confuse residents.
The Village of Bayside, in conjunction with neighboring North Shore communities and the Schlitz Audbon Nature Center has a comprehensive emerald ash borer management plan. As you may know, Milwaukee County is under quarantine due to the continued presence of the emerald ash borer (EAB) invasive species. While the disease has not been confirmed in Bayside, it has been detected in Brown Deer, Cudahy, Franklin, Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee, and Oak Creek. To combat EAB, the state DNR plans to experiment with using another invasive species. Wisconsin will soon be the 10th state to release …

The Village has taken the most idealistic thoughts and shaped them into reality. 2012 marked a year of great success.  Even with the many accomplishments, we all have come to realize that the status quo no longer works.  …

The Bayside Police Department has received a few calls lately about coyotes in the Village. While these animals are normally not threatening, a small percentage can prove more brazen around humans.    Bayside has employed several techniques to help deter coyotes. One unique solution that the Village has used is wolf urine. Wolf urine is successful because wolves are one of coyotes few natural predators, and coyotes will avoid areas were wolves the presence of wolves is sensed. Wolf urine has been placed around the Village where coyotes have been spotted, and has been successful thus far.   If…

In the November edition of the Village Scene, look for more information on the Emerald Ash Borer, its impacts, and what the Village is doing about it. Interesting to know, the Village has approximately 4,900 trees in the public right-of-way. Of those 4,900, over 700 of them are ash trees. The attached pictures provide a snapshot of what impact the Borer can have as well as the markings on the tree to look for for in identifying this vicious tree disease. These were taken during a recent visit to Hazel Crest, IL. as part of a EAB symposium.

Both professionally and personally, I would like to thank Cody for his commitment, contributions, …
One of the most dangerous and easy to solve property maintenance issues is keeping vision triangles clear and free of any obstructions.  Vision triangles are simply sight lines at intersections or along curves in a road that should be kept free of any obstructions so motorists can see incoming traffic, bicyclists, or pedestrians.  Village Code requires residents to ensure that fences, hedges, bushes, or other plants on their property don't impede traffic visibility at these locations.  Vision triangles are frequently an issue for residents with corner lots.   What Can You Do? The Village …
