In nearly 100-degree heat, eighth grade students wearing military jackets, long skirts and bonnets got a taste for life during the Civil War Tuesday. Civil War Day has wrapped up the school year and the eighth grade Civil War history unit at Whitefish Bay Middle School for five years under the direction of history teacher Cindy Dettlaff. Cumberland School held its annual Spring Sing concert outside of the school Wednesday afternoon. Before the concert, Principal Jayne Heffron dedicated two new basketball hoops to the memory of Jerome Addison, a 2nd grade student who was accidentally shot and killed last year. Heffron said Jerome was intellectually curious and loved playing basketball. The basketball hoops were donated by the Cumberland School PTO.
Some North Shore children were treated to a unique interactive story hour Wednesday. Around two dozen children heard the story "Feed a Mouse a Cookie" at Generations at Play, a Bayside family center, and then painted a small ceramic mouse. The pottery will be fired by local pottery painting and Mosaic art studio, Art Trooper, to be picked up in about one week later.
Friends and families of Whitefish Bay High School art students admired student artwork Thursday night during the annual Creative Self Expression Show at The Great Frame Up. More than 300 students submitted their work to the high school’s annual art show, but only 32 works are selected. All two-dimensional pieces of artwork were framed by the shop at 507 E. Silver Spring free of charge. Erin Lehrmann's self-portrait painting, titled ''IM'personal', was named Best of Show. Her work will now advance to the national Creative Self Expression Show, where she stands to win a college scholarship. A …
Shorewood High School students displayed the result of a year of work at the district's 4th annual Art Night. Ranging from crayons to Hitler, students worked all year and completed 24 art pieces. The students explained their process during a slideshow presentation after parents, students and teachers looked at the artwork displayed through out the high school's art department.
The Shorewood High School auditorium building is bustling, as the drama department prepares to unveil "Ragtime" on Friday. The show includes 52 student actors, approximately 47 student crew members and multiple professionals and volunteers, all collaborating to put on the largest production Shorewood High School has ever seen. Students at Shorewood are ready for the challenge, and they have help from a dedicated staff and a corps of community volunteers.
