Bayside's Design-A-Sign Night at Art Trooper

Join Bayside community members for Design-A-Sign Night at Art Trooper Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for this Free Event.

I've lived in the Pelham-Heath area of Bayside for the last 12 years. On the corner of Greenvale and Wabash, I watch dozens of drivers race their kids to school. Some actually stop at the yield sign, others never see it. Several times a year, I witness near-miss accidents; high school students, buses, motorcycles, bicyclists, and mad-driving mini-vans. Have I complained? Yes, to the neighbors. Especially when I see dozens of children waiting at the end of their driveway for the morning bus.

Now, instead of just complaining, I get to do something about it.  Many of you know me as Ms. Ann at Art Trooper.  So, when Andy Pederson contacted me regarding the , I felt compelled to help.  The contest allows our youngest Bayside residents to design a traffic sign. Perhaps their artwork will be more effective than the current traffic warnings. Perhaps, the masterpiece of a five-year-old will slow down my neighbor in the green SUV that tears down Wabash every morning racing her kids to school.

Therefore, the residents of Bayside are welcome to join their community neighbors at the new Art Trooper, 333. W. Brown Deer Rd., this Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Design-A-Sign Night. This free event will allow children to design a "slow down" traffic sign and submit it to the village contest.  No need to RSVP--just show up.
