Restored B-17 Bomber Takes to the Sky

As part of the EAA’s 2013 “Experience History” national tour, a restored Boeing B-17 bomber will take to the sky at the Wings Over Waukesha Airshow, August 24-25.

Visitors at Wings Over Waukesha will have the opportunity to experience history for themselves and travel back in time aboard one of the best-known aircraft types of the World War II era.

“We’re excited and honored to have a B-17 Bomber at this year’s Wings Over Waukesha Airshow,” said Steve Betzler, EAA B-17 and Ford Tri-Motor Chairman. “We strive to preserve the spirit of aviation, and truly hope to connect all generations with this magnificent aircraft.”

Known as “The Flying Fortress,” the B-17 bomber is considered one of the greatest military airplanes ever built. The EAA’s Aluminum Overcast was built in 1945, but was delivered to the Army Air Corps too late to see active service in World War II. However, since 1994, tens of thousands of people have experienced this unique airplane through both its flights and ground tours.

Tickets to ride the B-17 at Wings Over Waukesha can be pre-scheduled and purchased in advance, or purchased at the event. Flights purchased in advance are $409 for EAA members and $449 for non EAA members.

The Wings Over Waukesha Airshow will also feature a lineup of nationally-renowned aerobatic acts, wing walkers, sky divers and a host of contemporary and vintage aircraft from both civilian and military aviation. This family-friendly event offers fun for all ages.
