Fox Point Farmers' Market Returns for Eighth Year

Drop your lawn mowers and put down those snow shovels, it's time for the Fox Point Farmers Market.

On Saturday, the annual is returning to Fox Point for the summer, bringing nearly two dozen different organic vendors and a neighborly connection.

The market sits in the west lot of Stormonth School, 7300 N. Lombardy open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Oct. 15, with music performances and events at 10 a.m.

Beginning in 2003, Mary LaCharite, current market president, began the neighborhood get-together inviting three vendors to sell their local, organic products in an effort to help residents connect.

“You really only see neighbors when you’re mowing and shoveling, and I thought a farmers market would be a good gathering place,” LaCharite said. 

LaCharite says the closest market at that time was in Thiensville and a village-wide needs survey done by showed that many people wanted a farmers’ market in Fox Point.

Over the years, the Fox Point Farmers’ Market grew and evolved, offering nearly eight times the number of vendors.

“It’s well supported…it’s really become an anchor in the community; I would have never dreamed when I started it that the response would be so amazing,” LaCharite said.

What’s at the farmers market?

According to LaCharite, this year’s market has expanded to include 23 organic vendors—an increase from just three vendors when it started—all of who have farms or businesses locally, right here in Wisconsin.

“Every vendor this year contacted me, and a lot of them find us on the website Local Harvest, and many said they had heard Fox Point had such a nice market,” LaCharite said.

Local Harvest is a website that offers information about where to find the best farmers and organic food closest your community. 

Fox Point is on the Local Harvest website with information about the community Farmers’ Market and the types of products one can expect to find there.

Some of the vendors and products that you can find at the market this summer include: antibiotic and hormone free beef from Jeff-Leen Farm; eggs and produce from Pampered Produce; and fresh mushrooms, sauces, granola, veggie burgers and pickled vegetables from farmer Eric Rose. 

Rose is a strong believer that farmers markets are beneficial to meeting new people and distributing an exclusive, fresh product.

“Freshness is certainly unique for a lot of consumers, you can get a really fresh product and we have one of a kind recipes,” he said.

Rose hits at least 20 markets every week because "we get to meet more customers, talk about our product, what makes our product different or better,” Rose said.

Another selection of vendors, like Wild Flour Bakery, will be selling organic bakery goods and artisan breads.

LaCharite has also incorporated events into the Farmers’ Market such as a soap making demonstration with Ann Marie Craig from Century Farmhouse and two cooking demonstrations with Chef Adam Siegel from the Lake Park Bistro and Chef Ken Kohls from Café 1505, as well as 15 weeks of live music performances.

Groups such as the North Shore Health Department, , Boy Scouts, Milwauke Metropolitan Sewage District and the have also been invited to have a table at the market providing information and services to the public.
