Letter to the Editor: Update on Jacob Adashek

Hey Everybody,

Tonight is the night. Jacob will have his bone marrow transplant this evening. Please keep Jacob in your thoughts and prayers!

Jacob's donor is a young male from Israel. He is a perfect match to Jacob and we are eternally grateful to him for giving Jacob the most incredible gift one can give. After one year if Jacob's donor agrees, Jacob and he can find out who the other is. Jacob hopes to meet his donor sometime soon after that.

Throughout this entire process, Jacob has had a "lets do this" attitude. He is an inspiration and we are so proud of him! The Doctors, Nurses and people involved in his care are truly amazing.

After Jacob's transplant it will be a long recovery. He will spend about a month in the hospital. At day 100 we will celebrate a milestone and after one year we will have a big celebration!

Please remember to spread the word about joining Be The Match or Gift of Life and becoming a potential bone marrow donor. Let people know that registering is a simple cheek swab and donating is most commonly done without surgery.

There is also something important we would like you all to be aware of. During this process for Jacob, he has needed numerous blood transfusions and has also gotten platelets many times. Please consider giving blood and/or platelets as often as possible. One of Jacob's brothers began donating blood regularly while going through dental school and little did he know that his own brother would be the recipient of other peoples blood donations.

Jacob's plan is to work hard and to make a difference by helping others. To his fellow grads, who voted him "Most Likely To Cure Cancer," he plans on helping to do just that!

We want to thank every one of you who have been an overwhelming support to Jacob and to us. The outpouring of caring we have all experienced has been invaluable and heartwarming to Jacob and to us. Please continue sending positive thoughts and prayers.
