North Shore Library Hosts Greenfest

Learn about energy efficiency, animals and maple syrup production.

“Green” = sustainability, conservation, nature, efficiency, healthy for the planet we all share.

When we hear the word “green”, we might all think of different things.  GreenFest on March 5 from 12 p.m .until 3 p.m. at the is a sharing of ideas, resources and programs.  It will be a time to connect with others in our community and learn from each other.  Enter the raffle and you might win your own book about how to be green.  Whether you are retired, have a young family or are a student, there will be something to intrigue you.  Learn what is happening right here in the North Shore area.

You are invited to come browse the booths in the Community Room.  It is free and open to the public.  Bring the whole family.

This program is presented by the North Shore Library in celebration of Aldo Leopold, Wisconsin’s conservationist.  Learn more about who he was and why we honor his legacy.

John Bahr from the Renewable Energy Community Group will bring information about the Green Neighbor initiative and home energy efficiency.  The Mid-west Renewable Energy Association will bring information on energy-saving technologies and workshops they offer in the area.

The event will include nature centers such as the Friends of Kletzsch Park, the and Havenswood State Forest.  There may even be some fun things to touch.  These nature centers offer programs for all ages.

Students from Environmental Club will bring a display and show what they are doing in terms of recycling, energy conservation and even maple syrup production.

If you want to get involved with a group and have a chance to dig in the dirt yourself, come see what the Indian Creek Stewardship group is doing and when they are meeting.

The Interfaith Earth Network bridges ecology and faith.  Hear about their mission to “challenge our communities to reflect upon care for the earth”.

Transition Milwaukee will be there to tell their story.  They are “part of a larger planet-wide effort to create, enhance and promote community projects, to grow our own food, generate our own power, develop our own economies and rebuild local resilience and self-reliance.”  Come to find out more.
