Fox Point Store, Restaurant Might Soon Expand Hours for Shoppers

Walgreens would like to stay open later; McDonald's hopes to add hours on both ends.

Holiday shoppers could soon see longer hours of operation for the Walgreens and crowds returning from Summerfest could enjoy the same at located in Fox Point.

The Village of Fox Point Plan Commission agreed to refer the modification of store hours for both businesses to the Village Board on Monday. The Village Board will consider the requests Dec. 13.

Walgreens Manager Dewayne Broadnax and District Manager Rick Sterling attended the meeting to represent the store located at 8615 N. Port Washington Rd.

Broadnax told the Plan Commission the store would like to stay open for two extra hours each night, to midnight, from Dec. 15-24. The store is currently open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The store's conditional use permit states its hours should be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Broadnax acknowledged it had previously been carrying store hours outside the conditional use plan, unknowingly.

Trustee Eric Fonstand stated he wanted to make sure that liquor and beer sale restrictions were maintained during the extended store hours, if granted.

Village Attorney Eric Larson referred to past approvals granted to the store and stated he expected to find that those restrictions would be upheld.

Edward Patterson, the owner of the McDonald's located at 8739 N. Port Washington Rd, also spoke to the Plan Commission about changing his store's conditional use permit. The fast-food restaurant owner said its current hours of operation are from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. He requested to expand them to 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Patterson also asked permission to open an hour earlier, at 4 a.m., on Black Friday in order to service shoppers in the area.

Patterson stated he would like to stay open until midnight during Summerfest in order to serve people coming off the shuttle buses which drop off in the parking lot near McDonald's.
