Falling into the category of That's Kind Of Cool, some Stormonth Elementary School third-graders created national landmarks out of milk cartons for the Made By Milk 2013 Carton Construction Contest, an online competition sponsored by Evergreen Packaging Group, a world leader in beverage packaging systems.
Each entry had to include at least 100 intact cartons; entries using more than 100 intact cartons earned extra points. Supporting materials were allowed as longs as they were natural, renewable resources (wood, newspaper, cardboard, etc.) and did not comprise more than 20% of the piece.
The purpose of the contest, as outlined on the contest's website: "Made By Milk strives to provide educators with an opportunity to teach students about recycling and repurposing materials, and how those concepts can have an impact on the lives of people and other creatures. In addition, each semester’s theme is carefully selected based on it’s ability to facilitate teachable moments as well as provide curriculum oriented opportunities for learning."
