Boston Marathon Bombing: 4 Fox Point, Bayside Runners Entered Race

Fox Point and Bayside residents were signed up to run the famous race, which was rocked by two explosions about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line.

Two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon had people carrying bloody spectators into the medical tent set up for runners, according to an Associated Press report on the Pocono Record website.

"There are a lot of people down," the AP quoted one man saying. The explosions happened about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line. 

In an interview with WTMJ 4 Fox Point resident Gary Krenz, said the first explosion happened shortly after he crossed the finish line.

"...To me, it looked like something a lot smaller, almost like a lollipop smoke. It was blacker. Then I saw the second one, and they told us to sort of clear through," he told the television station. "Missed the explosion by probably 30 seconds or so. It's just very freaky."

Bayside resident Cory Conto is safe and sound after the event, according to Facebook posts. Bayside resident Lane Brostrom was also signed up to compete. Bayside resident Mike Giesecke was signed up to run, but did not end up competing.

Conto and Krenz have finish times recorded on the Boston Marathon website. Brostrom had a half time recorded.

NBC News reported fire engines, police and emergency medical personnel were headed to the scene. An affiliate reporter told NBC News she heard two loud explosions, and that "everybody kind of ducked and hit the ground," and Jackie Bruno, reporter for New England Cable News said she saw people with significant injuries, including one person with a leg blown off.

"Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror," Bruno said.
