Fox Point and Bayside Week in Review: Feb. 20-26

A weekly recap highlighting the week's top news in Fox Point and Bayside.

Fox Point-Bayside Patch is featuring a weekly recap of the top stories from Feb. 20-26.

Unlike other school districts around the state that are laying off teachers by Monday because of the uncertainty over the state budget, that's not happening at the Nicolet School District.

District Administrator Rick Monroe said many different factors come into play when determining layoffs, including which classes students select and the school's enrollment, which determines how many teachers are needed.

"We don’t have that information now, so it’d be irresponsible to start making decisions that impact people’s livelihoods based on just guessing," Monroe said.

While the full School Board will review the recommendation at its meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nicolet has decided to reorganize some positions within the school, eliminating the audio and visual technician position, but moving that employee to a new position.

The is bracing for revenue losses from the state of Wisconsin that could be as much as $700 per student, according to District Administrator Rachel Boechler. But no one knows for sure how deep the cuts will be until Gov. Scott Walker presents his budget on Tuesday.

Police Chief Bruce Resnick was recognized by the village for his 30 year with the department. Resnick was presented with some village apparel and a gift card, a store he says Village Manager Andy Pederson knows Resnick has an affinity for.

The Nicolet School District will use Facebook and its website as way to educate the community about the April 5 referendum.

School officials also plan more traditional ways to get the word out, including sending out postcards, to get the word out.
