Fox Point and Bayside Week in Review: May 1-7

A weekly recap highlighting the week's top news in Fox Point and Bayside.

Fox Point-Bayside Patch is featuring a weekly recap of the top stories from May 1-7.

A group of progressive activists showed up at state Sen. Alberta Darling'sΒ  Menomonee Falls office Tuesday to protest what they said was her refusal to meet with constituents, but Darling was no where to be found.

Andy Potts, a spokesman for Darling, says that she's readily available and suggests that anyone interested call the office and make an appointment, but members of Grass Roots Northshore feel differently.

Instead of making a major move to reduce the size of the Milwaukee County Board, the board voted to reduce that number just by one, eliminating Joseph Rice. Rice represents Whitefish Bay, Fox Point, Bayside, River Hills and a small part of Milwaukee.

To recap: Milwaukee County, where most services are delivered in the City of Milwaukee to their own residents, while most of the funding comes from suburban taxpayers, has voted to further reduce suburban representation. Thanks, Milwaukee. You're a pal.

Consolidation of the North Shore police department's dispatch services has been a hot debate, with Brown Deer the last to stake their claim.

Fox Point, Bayside, River Hills, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay and Glendale have signed agreements to join a consolidated dispatch center that would be located at the Bayside Police Department. On Monday, the last remaining village to join, Brown Deer, voted against continuing negotiation talks with Bayside, meaning that for right now, Brown Deer will not be joining the consolidated dispatch program.

Democratic state Rep. Sandy Pasch of Whitefish Bay has declared her intention to run against GOP Sen. Alberta Darling in a recall election.

Darling and Pasch both explain to Patch their differing views and what that may mean for the race.

It looks like Fox Point residents will no longer have to drive to Glendale to find a Red Box for movie rentals, nor will they have to take their Toppers pizza home to finish it off.

Walgreens will soon be getting a Red Box rental machine, offering movies for just $1 per night. Toppers is setting up some new seating so that patrons have a place to enjoy their takeout pizza. However, both changes still need approval of the , which is expected to vote on them at its May 10 meeting, set for 7 p.m.
