Brian Manthey, a spokesman for WE Enereries, said much of the power outages are due to the heavy winds.

"For the most part, tree limbs make contact with wires, they can either knock them down or make contact where they’ll trip wires off," he said.

But even if your power is out and you may believe your neighbor has called it in, Manthey says it's best to still notify WE Energies at (800) 662-4797. He also urged people to stay away from any downed lines.

"You definitely want to call our outage line and make sure we’re aware of it," he said. "Power lines, completely stay away from them, at least 25 feet away, and let us know. Don’t try to guess either it’s a cable, phone or electric line. Just assume it’s an electric line and that it’s live, and give us a call."
