The Best of Patch: May

A look back at the top headlines from Fox Point-Bayside Patch in 2011.

At year's end it's nice to take a look back at where you came, which offers a good look at where you're going. At Patch, May brought us changes in the political sphere yet again with the passing of the concealed carry law, some sweet activities at and a whole lot more

With the passing of the concealed carry law, Fox Point and Bayside police chiefs took different sides on the issue of residents running with guns. Both Tom Czaja and Bruce Resnick mentioned the difference between annual firearms training for officers versus the proposed every five-year training for civilians. Neither thought every five years was sufficient.

The Cupcake Run was organized by the Fox Point-Bayside PTO and Educational Foundation to raise money for the Fox Point-Bayside schools. There was a 5K run, two-mile walk, one-mile kids run and an awards ceremony. Click the link to check out the photos of the annually sweet event.

As Milwaukeean Matthew Haeffel and his band pushed on in a heated, tough competition for the third annual Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands contest, they remembered a fallen band member. Fox Point native Tim Reck died of heart complications in April of the previous year. Reck occasionally accompanied Haeffel when they performed live, and even is featured on Haeffel's latest single that he released on May 24.  It's Reck's last recording before his death.

More than 160 girls and their dads took to the dance floor in an effort to fundraise for Bayside Troop 1163. This troop plans to travel to the rain forest, ruins, and phosphorescent bay in Puerto Rico in 2012. Click the link to check out the photos of the girls and their dads.
