The Best of Patch: November

A look back at the top headlines from Fox Point-Bayside Patch in 2011.

At year's end it's nice to take a look back at where you came, which offers a good look at where you're going. At Patch, November didn't bring in any sticking snow but it did bring some hefty political controversey with a kick off to recall Gov. Scott Walker, a shift in local taxes for residents who live in the Nicolet School District and the passing of two Nicolet sophmores who were the victims of a car accident.

When the state Legislature passed a bill that now allows school districts to discipline and even fire teachers based on their students' test scores, area educators had a lot to say about the appropriateness of this guage.

Residents in Fox Point, Bayside and River Hills will pay a larger share of property taxes this year, while those living in Glendale will pay less, new figures show. Why the shift? Two 15-year-old sophomore girls at Nicolet High School were killed in a one-car accident in Glendale.

Halee Ludowise-Fischer of Glendale and Jennifer Geren of Fox Point died in the crash, which happened at about 1 a.m. at West Good Hope Road and North Seneca Avenue, Glendale police said.

A crowd that eventually grew to about 1,000 descended on the block where Gov. Scott Walker and his family live in Wauwatosa, against the first-term executive almost in his own front yard.
