With road conditions continually changing from the snow, the Department of Transportation will update road conditions and travel information on the state's 511 traveler information system. Simply dial "511" or visit their website for additional information. In the meantime, here's some tips from the DOT to keep you safe on the wet and slippery roads:

  • Clear snow and ice from all windows and lights before driving.
  • Go slow. Remember the posted speed limits are for dry pavement.
  • Leave plenty of room for stopping.
  • Leave room for maintenance vehicles and plows.
  • Watch for slippery bridge decks which ice up sooner than pavement.
  • Don't use the cruise control in wintry conditions.
  • Don't get overconfident in a 4x4 vehicle.
  • Look farther ahead in traffic than normal.
