What Schlitz's Nature-Watchers See This Spring

The snow on the ground is an easy sign that we're still waiting for it to feel like spring, but check out what Schlitz Audubon Nature Center staff are noticing.

Everyone knows spring has been slow to arrive this year—especially compared to the 70-degree temperatures from 2012—but Schlitz Audubon Nature Center's Don Quintenz has been paying extra close attention.

WUWM interviewed Quintenz about the delayed arrival of spring, and what he's observed

He said the first robin he spotted this year was on March 8, and in 2012 the birds had been in town and singing several days before that. His first bluebird spotting was eight days later this year than last year.

And in the human realm, he said he planned to go cross-country skiing—something he'd never done before in late March.

But even though it feels like winter, there are some spring signs that are plowing ahead. The aspen buds were out, he noted, and cardinals were singing.
