Halloween Candy for Troops
Following this year's Halloween celebrations, Dr. Levine will be representing Wisconsin at the national dental meeting in New Orleans, LA. The rest of the team will collect unopened trick-or-treat candy at Levine Dental Associates at 8860 N. 60th Street in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. All donations received will be delivered to local troops serving in our armed forces that cannot be home to enjoy Halloween with their families. Dr. Paul Levine is fighting tooth decay by taking cavity-provoking candy off our streets! The team at Levine Dental wants to surprise Dr. Levine when he returns by challenging our friends and neighbors to donate as much of their trick-or-treat candy as they'd like to our candy drive.
Dr. Levine has always told his patients, "Visiting your dentist two times per year, brush and floss daily, and by getting rid of excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth and mouth a healthy boost." Dr. Paul Levine, a family and cosmetic dentist in Brown Deer, has said at previous candy collecting events, "Kids can still have all the fun of trick-or-treating. It's also a great way to give our soldiers a smile."
Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons. According to the Wisconsin Dental Association, kids average 8 cavities by the time they reach age 17. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth. As well as being a detriment to oral health, candy also contributes to unnecessary weight gain. All parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for now, more than ever.
Unopened candy will be collected at Levine Dental on Monday, November 4th, from 2:00-5:00pm. All the candy will then be packaged and shipped to our friends at our local Milwaukee USO branch. There, they ship care packages to troops from Milwaukee and the surrounding communities deployed all over the world. Dr. Levine says, "We want to do everything we can so that everyone has fun, a great smile, and a little treat this year for Halloween.
