Shelter Made of Garlic Mustard

Maple Dale 6th Graders learn to make shelters out of whatever they can find, including an impressive shelter made of garlic mustard. Who knew garlic mustard could be handy?

In the last days of the school year, Maple Dale 6th Graders spent a day at .  They were there learning about working as a team to produce established goals, including building these shelters.  The teams could use anything they could find lying in the woods.  They could use wood, branches, leaves even garbage, but they couldn’t pick the leaves off the trees or cut or break branches off the trees.  They had to respect nature not destroy it.  There was one exception...they could pull the dreaded garlic mustard, which one group incorporated into their shelter.

Other activities that day included sand art projects, capture the flag, a CSI-Crime Scene Investigator type of exercise and other team building activities, all while leaving no trace.

Thanks Maple Dale for making learning fun.
