"Somebody Should Do Something About That!"

Caring About Animals: "I said, 'Somebody should do something about that.' And then I realized -- I am that somebody."

“Somebody should do something about that.”  How many times have you heard
that statement? Or maybe said it yourself?

If you’re interested in the welfare of animals in the Milwaukee area, you may be aware that the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (M.A.D.A.C.C.) is crowded with stray and surrendered animals. Many of the dogs and cats may be ill or injured to start with, and the overcrowded conditions, combined with the stress of being in a new facility, is not conducive to healing.
As an animal’s condition deteriorates, it is less and less likely to be adopted.

Fortunately for the animals, M.A.D.A.C.C. and the Wisconsin Humane Society have developed “Home Stretch,” a new program which will allow more animals to be saved.  Thanks to this joint effort, animals who are too sick or too young to be adopted may be placed in volunteer foster homes to recuperate.  Once they have regained their health, they will have the good fortune of entering WHS’s adoption
program.  This foster program may be open to healthy M.A.D.A.C.C. animals as well, to free up space for more animals at both facilities.

Of course, the “Home Stretch” program depends on having knowledgeable and caring volunteers to open up their homes and help the animals.  Could one of those people be you?  The Wisconsin Humane Society is accepting foster applications at http://wihumane.org/volunteer/foster.aspx, or call 414-264-6257.

Too many homeless animals – too few loving homes. Hopefully, you’ll realize that the “somebody” in the opening line could be YOU!
