Emerald Ash Borer: The Threat Spreads!

With emerald ash borer (EAB) found in 66 communities, Wisconsin now has a total of 20 counties under quarantine. These counties include: Brown, Crawford, Dodge, Douglas, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha and Winnebago.

As the threat of EAB continues to increase throughout the state, it's important to keep these tips in mind:

  • Do not move any firewood, ash nursery stock, unprocessed wood waste from pruning, storm damaged trees and branches, ash bark and wood chip mulch.
  • Do not plant any ash trees in your landscape. Diversify with alternatives, such as Kentucky coffee tree, ginkgo, bald cypress, Turkish filbert, swamp white oak, chinkapin oak, Japanese lilac or apple service berry.
  • Have your landscapes inspected for ash trees and EAB infestations. If a presence is found, be sure to have trees treated.
  • Before considering removal or replacement, keep in mind that treatments are a more economical and environmentally-sound approach to EAB management. The First Choice Tree Care Treeage™ treatment plan is an industry-leading protective and curative plan.

When it comes to tree health, it’s important to be proactive. If you suspect EAB or have ash trees on your property, don’t hesitate to seek professional help.
