December 10th Nicolet Athletic Update

Michigan Wolverines Girls Volleyball team featuring Nicolet grad Krystalyn Goode defeated Stanford last night to move on to the Final Four of the NCAA women's volleyball tournament.

The NHS Boys Basketball team: The Knights boys varsity basketball team won its 2nd straight game with a 55-45 win over Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday night.  The Knights shut Lutheran down to just 6 combined points and without a field goal in the 2nd & 3rd Quarters combined on their way to a 21 point lead going into the 4th Quarter.  Eugene Bonner led with 25 points while Tyler Miller added 19.  The team next travels to Port Washington on Tuesday night (5:45/7:30pm) and then on Friday, the boys will host Grafton (5:45/7:30pm).  The boys will also play in the NY2LA shootout vs. St. John's Military Academy on Saturday at 1:30pm at Homestead High School.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights beat Milwaukee Lutheran on the road last Friday night 43-34.  Lanoira Duhart scored 25 points while the entire team played strong defensively.  The win put the girls at 1-1 in the conference, good enough for an 8-way tie for 1st place.  The JV lost a close game to Lutheran but the Frosh team won 41-24 behind 10 points from Sam Peltz, 9 from Michelle Pigg and 6 from Ania Kotecki.  This week, the girls host Port Washington in JV/V action (5:45/7:30pm) on Tuesday.  The Frosh plays Arrowhead in Gym 2 that night at 5:45pm because Port doesn't field a frosh team.  The girls will then travel to Grafton on Friday (5:45/7:30pm).

The NHS Wrestling team: Last week Thursday the Nicolet Wrestling team got off to a good start in the dual season by beating Milwaukee Lutheran 54-30.  The win was led by sophomores Danny Zenge and Mohamed Dawod each winning their matches with a pin.  On Saturday, the varsity team headed to Sheboygan Falls finishing with two second place finishes from Senior Nate Patton at 285 pound weight class and Sophomore Mohamed Dawod at 195 pounds.  The JV team had a very strong 5th place showing at Port Washington on Saturday.  The team effort was led by 3 champions: freshman Gavin Voit, and Juniors Alex Hayes and Isaiah Agara.  On Wednesday, December 12th the team will go head to head with perennial powerhouse Port Washinton at Port beginning at 6pm.

The NHS Boys Swim team: The boys defeated Milwaukee Lutheran 97-71 and 61-28 resectively in Varsity & JV competition last Tuesday.  Winning varsity events for the Knights were Cole McCullough, Evan Siverhus, Jack Cook, Taylor Hanson, Steve Richards and Will Pickney.  This week, the team will swim at Port Washington on Wednesday at 6pm.

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats played three games in three days last week, losing to Brookfield 3-1 on Thursday, defeating Waupaca 9-1 on Friday and beating Stoughton on Saturday 4-0 to improve their overall record to 3-4.  Nicolet Senior Laine Tomesch scored the team's final goal in the 9-1 win Friday night.  The team is off this week and will resume play on Saturday, December 22nd at Fond Du Lac.

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The WNS team was featured in the Journal/Sentinel on Saturday after beating Brookfield/Catholic Memorial 5-2.  The team is now 6-1 with their only loss at Arrowhead by one goal.  Nicolet Junior Sean Leahy had 12 saves in their win Saturday night.  This week, the team will travel to the Kettle Moraine Ice Center to take on Germantown in Jv (8:45pm) and Varsity (6:30pm) action on Wednesday night.  Then on Saturday, the Varsity will host Beloit Memorial at the Kern Center on the MSOE Campus at 4pm.

The NHS Gymnastics team: The girls opened their season with a home conference dual win against Port Washington last Wednesday night 125.425 to 107.55 in Varsity competition and 112.8 to 106.5 in JV competition.  Winning firsts for the Varsity were Aleah Ellis on the Floor, Vault, Bars and All-Around.  Hayley Raj took first in the Beam and second in the floor routine.  This week, the girls will travel to Menomonee Falls to take on the Falls/Germantown co-op at 6:30pm. 

The NHS Dance team: This Saturday the Dance team will compete in the Little Chute Invite in Little Chute, WI.

The NHS Cheer team: This Saturday the Cheer team will compete in the Badger High School Cheer & Dance Invitational in Lake Geneva.

The NHS Softball team: is looking for players for their pre-season open gym workouts beginning January 2nd.  Please see attached form.

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, January 2nd at 7pm in room B113.  On Friday, December 14th, the Booster Club will be offering a variety of spirit wear: crew and hoodie sweatshirts, long and short sleeve t-shirts, sweatpants, baseball and knit caps and much more for sale during the lunch hours in the cafeteria.  Nicolet spirit wear is a great holiday gift idea to suggest to your family.  Bring money if you want to shop!  Also on sale in the Nicolet school store is Concession Buck coupon books.  Redeemable in the concession stands at all home varsity athletic events.

The Michigan Wolverines Girls Volleyball team featuring Nicolet Graduate Krystalyn Goode defeated Stanford 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 last night to move on to the Final Four of the NCAA women's volleyball tournament. We could not be more proud of what Krystalyn and her teammates have accomplished so far. The Wolverines will play Texas on December 13th at 6:00pm on ESPN2. GO BLUE!
