Nicolet Athletic Roundup, Oct. 1

A roundup of recent athletic accomplishments and standings at Nicolet High School.

The NHS Boys Soccer team is now 13-3-2 after a win Friday at home vs. Greenfield High School. They are currently in 4th place (3-2-1) in the North Shore Conference with one conference game remaining on Tuesday at home vs. Whitefish Bay.  Tuesday's game will be the final tune-up before beginning their run in the WIAA Regional Playoffs.  The team is likely to host a 1st round regional game on Tuesday, October 9th.  Due to WIAA rules prohibiting playoff soccer games from playing on fields not designated "soccer only", it is likely that game will be played at Uihlein Field.  The JV2 will play at home on Wednesday at 4:30pm vs. University School.

The NHS Football team will face Germantown on the road Friday night at 7pm.  The JV team will play at Germantown on Thursday night at 6pm while the Frosh will host the Warhawks at 6pm on Thursday. 

The NHS Girls Tennis team lost to rival Homestead 2-5 at the dual meet on Monday, Sept. 24 and took second at the North Shore Conference meet last Friday, Sept. 28.  Gold medal conference champions were Michelle Margolies and Erin Wathen at #2 doubles, Michelle Tong and Mercedes Halaska at #3 doubles, and Emma Wathen at #3 singles.  Silver medal winners were Josie Docalavich and Sara Miller at #1 doubles, Nina Gerard at #2 singles, and Audrey Liang at #4 singles. #1 singles player Emily Mone took 4th place. The team competes Monday, Oct. 1 in the sub-sectional tournament and again on Thursday in the sectional tournament as they work to earn a berth at the team state tournament for the second year in a row.

The NHS Girls Golf team competed against some of the best teams in the State last Tuesday in the WIAA Regionals.  The team shot a combined 377 to finish 6th out of 8 teams.  Emily Murphy was the lone Knight to earn a trip to the Sectionals by shooting an 80 and will compete Tuesday at Wanaki GC for an individual spot in the State Tournament. 

The NHS Girls Swim team lost to Grafton last Thursday 81-105.  Jamie Kloehn was the team's only double winner and Christa Rumbaugh and Sara Zelazoski also won an individual event.  The JV defeteated Grafton 133-18.  On Tuesday night, the team will host Cedarburg in a dual meet beginning at 6pm.

The NHS Boys Volleyball team will travel to Whitefish Bay High School on Tuesday night for a re-match against our conference rival Blue Dukes.  The Varsity team will then compete in an Invite at Whitefish Bay on Saturday.  Congratulations to Head Coach Brad Kuehl who recently earned his 200th career victory.

The NHS Girls Volleyball team placed 3rd out of ten teams in the Brittney Gigl Memorial Volleyball Tournament held at Nicolet this past Saturday. The program was also able to raise over $1,000 from their concession stand for the Brittney Gigl Scholarship Fund.  This week, the team will play at Germantown in a big conference match-up on Thursday night.  The Frosh team will play in the Frosh Conference Tourney on Friday at Milwaukee Lutheran and the JV will play in the NSC JV Tourney at Nicolet on Saturday.

The NHS Cross Country team will race at Waterford Union High School on Friday at 5:45pm.

 The NHS Booster Club has some announcements for you:

  1. Future Nicolet Families can also become Booster Club members by purchasing a Community Booster Club pass. Please contact the Athletic/Recreation Office at 351-7566 or consult the Athletic/Recreation.
  2. Nicolet Families can purchase concessions stand gift certificates (flyer attached) for use at the Booster Club concession stands both inside and outside of NHS on game days.
  3. The next Booster Club meeting is Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in room B113. Please consider joining. It will be the most fun you have volunteering.
