The NHS Boys Basketball team: The Knights boys basketball team moved into 3rd place in the conference (5-3) with a thrilling double overtime victory at Whitefish Bay on Friday night.  Senior forward Tyler Miller scored the winning basket with a thunder dunk on a feed from Senior guard Treland Jenkins as the Knights won 78-76 to improve their overall record to 7-6.  Junior guard Greg Pigg led four players in double digits with 25 points including 18 in the first half.  This week, the boys host Wauwatosa West on Tuesday night and travel to Homestead on Friday night.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights beat West Allis Hale at home last Monday night 42-29 behind Senior Briana Gray's 16 points then won a defensive battle with Whitefish Bay on the road on Friday night 29-24.  The Knights, down by 4 at half, held the Blue Dukes to 6 2nd half points to run their conference record to 4-3 (4th place) and even their overall record at 7-7.  Gray again led all scorers and Lizzy Benson hit a crucial three-pointer late to secure the victory.  This week, the girls host Homestead on Friday night.

The NHS Wrestling team: This past weekend, the Nicolet Varsity Wrestling Team travelled to Clintonville, WI to compete in the first Trucker Invite.  The 11-man crew made their impact on the Northern Wisconsin teams by taking 4th place overall, just being edged out of the top 2 spots.  Junior 113 pounder Jack Kalloch took home a championship while Senior 170 pounder Jordan Fisher finished as a runner up.  Alex Ellision, Teague Worlton, Danny Zenge, Mohamed Dawod and Nate Patton all took 3rd place.  This week, the Knight's matmen wrestle at Germantown on Thursday vs. the Warhawks and then on Saturday, the Varsity will travel to Sheboygan North High School for a tournament and the JV will attend the Racine Park Invite.

 

The NHS Boys Swim team: The boys Varsity swim team travelled to Cedarburg, one of the top teams in the state last Thursday and lost 126-60.  Winning varsity events for the Knights were Kyle Siverhus and Michael Mills.  In the Shorewood Invite last Saturday, the divers got off to a great start with Evan Siverhus taking first place.  Other team members who scored in the finals were Kyle Siverhus, Michael Mills, Jamie DeGraff, Greg Hortsmeier, Zach Pagel and Danny Lerner.  This week, the boys will host their annual Knights 11 Diving Invite on Friday beginning at 5pm.

 

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats defeated Arrowhead 3-0 last Thursday by scoring a goal in each period.  On Friday, the team defeated Appleton United 3-1 and improved to 10-5 and 5-1 in conference.  Nicolet Senior Laine Tomesch's goal in the first period made the score 2-0.  This week, the girls will skate Tuesday night at the Tri County Arena vs. Xavier at 6pm.  They will also host Holy Angels Academy on Friday at USM at 7pm.

 

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The boys hockey team will skate on their home ice at the MSOE Kern Center vs. Kettle Moraine on Saturday (V 4pm/ JV 6pm).

 

The NHS Gymnastics team: The Girls took on the Blue Dukes at Whitefish Bay last Wednesday and lost 132.6 to 123.1 in Varsity action.  Alleah Ellis (9.025) finished on top in the Vault, finished 2nd on the Beam (8.5) and All-Around (34.475) and third on the Bars (8..5).  Calley Manion finished 2nd on the floor and 3rd in the All-Around in JV competition.  On Saturday in the Homestead Inivite, the girls took 7th place with a huge score of 129.775.  Again, Aleah Ellis was the team's top performer with a 6th place finishe on the bars and 7th in the all-around.  This week, the team will host Grafton/Cedarburg on Wednesday.

 

The NHS Cheer team: The Nicolet Varsity Cheer will compete next on February 2nd in Brookfield, WI.

 

The NHS Dance team: This past weekend, the Varsity Dance team competed in the Lake Front Classic in Oak Creek and finished 3rd overall in the HS Team Hip Hop category and also won 5 other trophies: 1) Sydney Calmes placed 2nd overall in the Freshman solo division. 2) Brittany Lyons placed 3rd overall in the Sophomore solo division.  3) Megan Eisendrath placed 3rd overall in the Junior solo division.  4) Lindsay Carpenter placed 1st overall in the Junior solo division.  5) Senior Brionna Hale & Sophomore Jailyn King dominated and placed 2nd overall for their hip hop duet in the High School Duet Division (9-12 grades combined). 

 

The NHS Ski Team: The boys and girls ski team competed last Thursday with both JV teams winning.  The Girls Varsity took 2nd and the Boys Varsity took 3rd.  Megan McMahon finished 1st and qualified for the State Tournament.  The boys faced some pretty stiff competition and crawled back from 4th after the first run to finish strong in their quest to qualify for State.  This week, the team will ski twice at Alpine Valley: Wednesday at 6pm and Sunday at 5pm.

 

Former Nicolet basketball standout Courtney Smith has started her college career strong.  The freshman is the starting point guard at Division II Lincoln (Pa.) University and is averaging 6.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists for a team that is 6-7.  Twice she has been the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association rookie of the week.

 

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, February 6th at 7pm in room B113.  On sale in the Nicolet school store is Concession Buck coupon books.  Redeemable in the concession stands at all home varsity athletic events.

 

The Nicolet Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for 1:55pm on February 8th.  All the winter sports teams will be recognized.

 

Please save the date for the 5th Annual Nicolet Athletic Golf Outing Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at the Fire Ridge Golf Club in Grafton. 

The past four golf outings have raised more than $50,000 for the Nicolet Athletic Department! We need your help again.  We are looking for golfers, donations and silent auction items.  Please mark this date on your calendar and stay tuned for more details.
