Nicolet Athletic Update: 1.2.13

 

The NHS Boys Basketball team: The Knights lost a close game at Pewaukee in overtime over the break 88-77.  Eugene Bonner led the Knights with 18 points and Tyler Miller contributed 17.  The Knights are now 6-5 overall and in 4th place in the North Shore Conference at 4-2.  This week, the boys play at Germantown on Friday against the State's top team and reigning State Champion Warhawks.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights played in the Christine Rathke Memorial Basketball Tournament at Franklin High School over the winter break.  On 12/27, the girls lost to Arrowhead 61-57.  Down by 16 to the 10th ranked Warhawks, the girls scored 23 points in the 4th quarter and had a chance to tie with 3 seconds left but the shot went in and out.  Briana Gray led all scorers with 28 points.  Sara Travia has 11 and Katherine Richter 8.  On 12/28, the girls lost to Lourdes Academy 46-34 without an injured Duhart.  Gray again led all scorers with 20.  The girls rebounded on 12/29 and beat Racine Case 40-34.  Again Briana Gray led all scorers with 29 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.  The Girls are now 5-6 overall but in 3rd place in the North Shore Conference with a 3-2 record.  This week, the girls host Germantown on Friday.

The NHS Wrestling team: Over the winter break, the Nicolet Wrestling Squad traveled to UW-Whitewater for the 43 team 2-day Mid-States Wrestling Tourney.  Leading the young team was Senior 170 pound wrestler Jordan Fisher.  Over the 2-day span Jordan wrestled a total of 7 matches with a 5-2 record - 4 of the victories were by pin.  By the end of the tournament Jordan finished in 7th place.  Great job Jordan!  Come catch the Knights matmen on Thursday at home against Grafton (6:30pm) and again on Saturday at West Allis Hale (9am).

 

The NHS Boys Swim team: The boys will host Grafton Thursday night in a conference dual meet.

 

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats played a slew of games over the break.  They defeated Fond Du Lac 7-1 in an Eastern Shores Conference game.  Against Baraboo in the 1st round of the Culver's Cup Tournament in Madison, the girls won 7-0.  The team then defeated Northland Pines 3-1 in the second round of the tournament.  That win pushed their record to 6-4 overall after starting out 0-4.  This week, the team will skate against Middleton at USM on Friday at 7pm and then host again vs. Green Bay East on Saturday at 7pm.

 

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The WNS team is now ranked 6th in the State with a 12-2 overall record.  The team was also named the Preps Plus "team of the week" for the week of 12/23.  You can see the Preps Plus video on the Nicolet Athletic Department website.  In a recent win against Greendale 7-1, Nick Sullivan had a 3-point night and Goalie Sean Leahy  had another outstanding night in front of the net.  The team is now in position to win their first North Shore Conference Title ever.  This week, the boys will skate against Waukesha at the Nagawaukee Ice Rink on Friday (JV at 4pm/ Varsity at 5:45pm).

 

The NHS Gymnastics team: The girls recently defeated Shorewood 126.7 to 96.95 in a NSC matchup.  On the Floor, Aleah Ellis took first and Hayley Raj took 2nd.  Ellis won the vault with Rachel Rabenn finishing 2nd.  Raj won the beam and Rabenn finished 3rd.  Ellis won the bars and the All-Around.  Their next competion is January 9th at home vs. Whitefish Bay.

 

The NHS Cheer team: The Nicolet Varsity Cheer will compete next on February 2nd in Brookfield, WI.

 

The NHS Ski Team: The boys and girls will race at the Heiliger Ski Club on Thursday night this week.

 

The NHS Softball team: is looking for players for their pre-season open gym workouts beginning January 2nd.  Please see attached form.  Please report to the batting cage area at 8pm.

 

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting has been CHANGED...from Wednesday, January 2nd to Wednesday, January 9th at 7pm in room B113.  On sale in the Nicolet school store is Concession Buck coupon books.  Redeemable in the concession stands at all home varsity athletic events.

 

The Nicolet Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for 1:55pm on February 8th.  All the winter sports teams will be recognized.
