Nicolet Athletic Update: 1.28.13

 

The NHS Boys Basketball team: The boys basketball team won for the 9th time in its last 12 games with a hard fought, thrilling 71-67 victory at Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday night.  Trailing 25-11 in the 1st half and down by 10 with a minute to go in the 3rd quarter, the Knights launched a fierce comeback to win the game.  Eugene Bonner, Greg Pigg, Tre Jenkins, Nolan Wagner, and Tyler Miller all scored in double digits for the Knights.  The team plays three games this week:  at home versus Port Washington on Tuesday (5:45/7:30), at Grafton on Friday (5:45/7:30) and a 3:00 pm non-conference varsity game at Racine Park on Saturday.  The Knights are now 9-7 overall and 6-4 in conference, tied for 3rd place.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights beat Milwaukee Lutheran in overtime last Friday night at home 66-60 to run their overall record to 9-7 with a 6-3 NSC record, good enough for 2nd place.  The girls launched a balanced scoring attack led by Briana Gray and Sara Travia.  This week, the girls JV/V will play at Port Washington (Port does not field a frosh team) on Tuesday night (5:45/7:30) and then will host Grafton on Friday night (5:45/7:30).

The NHS Wrestling team: The  JV wrestlers wrestled in a 16-team tournament at Whitefish Bay High School.  They finished 4th overall, 8 places higher than last year.  Danny Zenge was a champion, Alex ellison a runner up.  Gavin Voit place 4th. Teague Worlton finished 3rd. Colton Webb 8th. Adam Plotkin 7th. Manssor Abdual-Hameed 12th. Teddy Uy 12th. John Zurawski 12th Jamalle Williams 7th. James Dean Vaillancourt 16th. Chris Azcueta 5th. Wayne Martin 5th. Isaiah Avatar 5th.  This week is a busy week for the team as they host Whitefish Bay Monday night and host Homestead on Wednesday night.  Then on Saturday, the Varsity will wrestle at Homestead in the North Shore Conference Tournament.

 

The NHS Boys Swim team: The boys swim team hosts Whitefish Bay in a dual meet Monday.  On Thursday, the JV Divers will compete at WFB.  Then the JV squad will compete in the NSC JV Swim meet at home on Friday night.  And finally on Saturday, the Varsity swimmers will compete at WFB in the NSC Varsity Swim meet.

 

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats won a pair of games last weekend to capture the Championship of the Pines Classic Tournament in Eagle River.  The victories gave the team a 14-6 overall record (6-2 in conference).  The Wildcats hope to improve their record on Thursday when they travel to Beaver Dam for a conference match-up beginning at 7pm.  On Saturday, the girls will skate against Sun Prairie at the Ice Pond at 2pm.

 

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The boys hockey team defeated Sheboygan 6-2 last Saturday to run their overall record to 14-3-1.  They also currently sit atop the North Shore Conference with a 4-0 record.  The boys will skate in the Varsity North Shore Conference tournament this week at the Ozaukee Center.  The tournament begins with a game vs. Grafton on Monday at 6pm.  On Tuesday the Varsity will again play at 6pm, this time vs. Cedarburg.  On Thursday, the tournament will continue with a 8pm face off against Germantown.  Then the tourney will conclude for the Varsity squad with a 8pm start Saturday night vs. Homestead.  The JV will also compete in the JV conference tournament at Ozaukee.  They will skate Tuesday (4:30pm) and Saturday (4:30pm).

 

The NHS Gymnastics team: The Girls have this week off before suiting up again next week Thursday at home vs. Brookfield.

 

The NHS Cheer team: The Nicolet Varsity Cheer will compete next on February 2nd in Brookfield, WI.

 

The NHS Dance team:  The Dance team performed their personal best this past weekend at Watertown HS, placing 6th overall for the D1 Varsity Hip Hop Division at the WI Regionals Dance Competition.

 

The NHS Ski team: The boys and girls ski team will race Thursday at the Heileger Ski Club (6pm).

 

The NHS Baseball team: There will be a meeting for all baseball players after school on Wednesday, February 6th in B112.  All players planning to play this season must attend.  We will be discussing preseason activities and expectations for the regular season.  If you cannot attend please speak with Coach Grodsky.  

 

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, February 6th at 7pm in room B113.  

 

The Nicolet Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for 1:55pm on February 8th.  All the winter sports teams will be recognized.

 

Please save the date for the 5th Annual Nicolet Athletic Golf Outing Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at the Fire Ridge Golf Club in Grafton.
