Nicolet Athletic Update: 1.7.13

 

The NHS Boys Basketball team: The Knights boys basketball team lost a hard fought game at Germantown on Friday.  Losing by just 7 points, 76-69 against the top team in the state who's average margin of victory has been 35 points.  The score was 67-63 with under 4:00 to go in the game before the Warhawks hit consecutive baskets to take control.  Tyler Miller led with 25 points and 15 rebounds, Eugene Bonner added 20 points and 8 rebounds while Nolan Wagner chipped in a career high 8 rebounds as well.  This week, the boys play at Whitefish Bay on Friday as part of a Varsity Showcase.  The Nicolet Boys Varsity will play a 7:30pm game against the Blue Dukes.  The game will be preceded by a 5:45pm Varsity match-up of the Nicolet Girls Varsity vs. Bay's Varsity girls team.  The Frosh and Jv boys teams will play at Bay on Thursday night with both games being played on two courts in the Field House at the same 7:30pm start time.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights lost a heartbreaker to Germantown on Friday night.  Down by 6 at half-time, the girls battled back to take a 2 point lead with a few minutes left in the 4th quarter.  Tied 59-59 with .05 seconds left, there was a Nicolet foul called.  Germantown converted the first of the 1 and 1 to steal the game 60-59.  Briana Gray led the way with 21 points.  Sara Travia had 14 (including 4 3's) and Lanoira Duhart added 8.  This week, the girls first host West Allis Hale on Monday night (F&JV at 5:45pm/ V at 7:30pm).  Then on Friday, the girls Varsity will be part of the Varsity showcase at Whitefish Bay against the Blue Dukes.  The Lady Knights will tip off at 5:45pm in the Bay Fieldhouse and their game will be followed by the Boys Varsity game at 7:30pm.  The girls Frosh and JV teams will both play in the Bay Fieldhouse at 5:45pm on Thursday night.  The Varsity games on Friday are billed as "Play for the Cure" Breast Cancer Awareness Night.  Both Schools are pre-selling "Play for the Cure" t-shirts in both men's and women's styles for $10 with all the proceeds going towards Breast Cancer Research.  Show your support by wearing your shirt on Friday.

The NHS Wrestling team: The Nicolet wrestlers last Thursday took to the mat and battled it out with the team from Grafton.  After some close matches the Knights got things rolling with pins from junior Alex Ellison, sophomore Mohamed Dawod, and senior Nate Patton but ended losing 48-27.  On Saturday, the team traveled to a highly competitive tournament at West Allis Hale. With some of their top wrestlers out for the day, the wrestling Knights finished their day in 9th place with place winning finishes from juniors Jack Kalloch, Alex Ellison, Isaiah Agara and sophomore Armani Johnson.  This week, the Knight's matmen wrestle at Cedarburg on Thursday night vs. the Bulldogs then will travel to Clintonville on Saturday for a Varsity tournament.  The JV squad will compete in the Sheboygan Falls Invitational on Saturday.

 

The NHS Boys Swim team: The boys Varsity swim team lost their first dual meet of the year to Grafton 98-82.  Winning varsity events for the Knights were Michael Mills, Jamie DeGraff, Zach Pagel and Greg Hortsmeier.  The JV won 98 to 35.  This week, the boys will travel to Cedarburg for a conference dual meet on Thursday before swimming in the Shorewood Invitational on Saturday.

 

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats defeated Middleton 1-0 last Friday night then turned around and beat Green Bay 2-1 at home on Saturday night.  This week, the girls will skate on their home ice at University School on Thursday vs. Arrowhead then host again on Friday vs. Appleton West.  Friday's home game is Wildcat Spirit Night (flyer attached).  Student admission is free and the Nicolet Pep Band will be playing for your musical enjoyment.  An open skate will precede the game.

 

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: This week, the boys will skate on their home ice at the MSOE Kern Center on Tuesdsay night vs. Stoughton (V at 6m/ JV at 8pm).

 

The NHS Gymnastics team: This week, the team will take on the Blue Dukes at WFB on Wednesday in a conference dual meet before heading to Homestead on Saturday for the annual Homestead Gymnastics Invitational.

 

The NHS Cheer team: The Nicolet Varsity Cheer will compete next on February 2nd in Brookfield, WI.

 

The NHS Ski Team: The boys and girls ski team competed in their first race last week Thursday.  The JV won and both the boys and girls Varsity teams took second with Megan McMahon capturing her first silver of the season just two tenths off the winner. John Jaekels was tied for the lead after the first run and made a spectacular recovery from what looked to be a sure cartwheel into a solid finish just off the podium.  Thank you all parents who helped and came out to watch. This week, the team will again ski at Heileger SKi Club on Thursday night.  Races begin at 6pm.

 

The NHS Softball team: is looking for players for their pre-season open gym workouts beginning January 2nd.  Please see attached form.  Please report to the batting cage area at 8pm.

 

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, January 9th.  On sale in the Nicolet school store is Concession Buck coupon books.  Redeemable in the concession stands at all home varsity athletic events.

 

The Nicolet Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for 1:55pm on February 8th.  All the winter sports teams will be recognized.
