Nicolet Athletic Update: 2.4.13

The NHS Boys Basketball team: The boys basketball team won a pair of games over the weekend and have now won 12 times in their last 15 games.  On Friday night, the Knights used a 18-4 run in the 4th quarter to defeat Grafton, 66-48.  Eugene Bonner led the way with 29 points while Tre Jenkins had 7 assists.  Then on Saturday afternoon, the Knights used a 23-9 spurt in the 3rd quarter to put away Racine Park, 59-47.  Bonner led with 19 points while Greg Pigg had 17, Tyler Miller added 11 and Jenkins 10.  The Knights, now 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the North Shore, play their last three regular season games at home:  Friday, February 8 vs Cedarburg; Tuesday, February 12 vs Kenosha Bradford; and Thursday, February 14, vs Germantown.  The boys will open WIAA tourney play the following week.  The boys Frosh/JV teams play at home Tuesday night at 7pm vs. South Division.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights beat a pair of NSC opponents last week to pull within one game of 1st place.  Last Tuesday, they defeated Port Washington on the road 46-31 with Briana Grayscoring 24 points.  Katherine Richter (6), Sara Travia (5) Michelle Peltz (4) and Lanoira Duhart (4) also contributed to the scoring.  Then on Friday against Grafton, the girls won 47-45 behind Gray (14) and Travia (14) who led the scoring attack again.  Brooke Silverberg (6) and Lizzy Benson (4) also had some big baskets as the team improved to 11-7 overall (8-3 in conference).  This Friday's game at Cedarburg will be for 1st place and will be televised live on Time Warner Sports 32 at 7:30pm.  The Frosh team plays at home tonight at 6pm vs. Tosa East.

The NHS Wrestling team: The Boys defeated Homestead in a dual meet last Wednesay to close out the regular season.  Nicolet got good wins from Jordan Fischer and Nate Patton.  This week is a big week for the team as they host the WIAA Regional Tournament on Saturday.

The NHS Boys Swim team: The boys swim team defeated Whitefish Bay 98-87 and 128-37 in Varsity and JV competition last Monday night.  Winning events for the Knights were Jamie DeGraff, Michael Mills, Greg Hortsmeier and Danny Lerner.  Then later in the week, the Knights Varsity Swim Team placed 5th in the Northshore Conference Championships.   Jamie DeGraff won first team All-Conference honors in the 50 and the 100 yd freestyle, Michael Mills and Evan Siverhus were 2nd Team All Conference in the 500 freestyle and diving respectfully.  Mills, Zach Pagel, Danny Lerner, and Jamie Degraff were All-Conference Honorable mention in the 200 fresstyle relay.  On Friday night, the JV Boys Swim Team placed 3rd in the Conference championship meet.  Coming up this Friday/Saturday, Nicolet will play host to the WIAA Sectional Diving and Swimming Championships.  Timers will be needed for the swim portion and will need to report to the open by 12:45 on Saturday.    Swimming competition starts a 1:00PM.  If you can help out please see Mr. Davis.

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats defeated Beaver Dam 8-0 last Thursday night on the road then skated to a 2-2 tie Saturday afternoon vs. Cap City at the Ice Pond in Waunakee.  The team is now 15-6-1 overall and 7-2 in the Conference.  They travel to Hartland on Tuesday night for a 7pm showdown with Arrowhead.

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The boys hockey team is now ranked 3rd in the Area with a 16-3-1 record.  Nicolet Junior Goalie Sean Leahy was named the JSOnline "Player of the Week" last week after leading his team to back-to-back wins by posting back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season to lower his goals against average to 1.67.  Leahy finshed with 26 saves in a 2-0 victory at Cedarburg on Tuesday, one day after making 14 stops in a 14-0 victory over Grafton.  Leahy is 15-3-1 and has one loss in his last seven games.  The win against Cedarburg wrapped up the North Shore Conference title, the first ever for the team and they set a new record for most wins in a season.  This week, the boys will play Friday at the Kern Center (V 6pm/JV 8pm). 

The NHS Gymnastics team: The Girls compete next on Thursday at home vs. Brookfield beginning at 6:30pm.

The NHS Ski team: The boys and girls ski team had a great race last Thursday at the Heileger Ski Club.  John Jaeckels won again for the 3rd time this year with Brody Wallace taking bronze.  Boys Varsity finished in first place along with the boys and girls JV squads.  The team's final regular season race is Wednesday night at Alpine Valley (6pm).  The team needs a big finish to earn their goal of qualifying for State again.

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, February 6th at 7pm in room B113.  Please see the attached Booster Club meeting announcement.

The Nicolet Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for 1:55pm on February 8th.  All the winter sports teams will be recognized.

Please save the date for the 5th Annual Nicolet Athletic Golf Outing Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at the Fire Ridge Golf Club in Grafton. 

The past four golf outings have raised more than $50,000 for the Nicolet Athletic Department! We need your help again.  We are looking for golfers, donations and silent auction items.  Please mark this date on your calendar and stay tuned for more details.
