Nicolet Athletic Update: 3.4.13

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The boys hockey team lost 2-1 in the WIAA State Quarterfinals to Eau Claire in front of 8 bus loads of fans.  Despite the loss, this was the most successful season in the history of the boys hockey program.  The team finished 22-5-1.  Coach Maco Balkovec was named Coach of the Year at the State Banquet.  The team was undefeated in conference, sectional champs and State qualifiers.  Congrats to Nicolet players Sean Leahy, Kyle Brahm, Phillip Poliakov and Nick Sullivan on a great season!

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The girls hockey team, despite a 2nd period goal by Nicolet senior Laine Tomesch, lost to Hayward 6-2 in the WIAA State Semi-Finals bringing their season to an end.

After starting out 1-4, the team rallied and fell just one game short of the State Championship gameand finished with a 20-7-record.  Congratulations to Laine and her teammates!

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights defeated West Bend East 46-40 in a WIAA Regional Semi-Final on Friday Night.  Lanoira Duhart lead all Scorers with 17 points.  Sara Travia added 11, Briana Gray 10 and Michelle Peltz 4.  In the WIAA Regional Final, the Knights fell to 4th Ranked and top seeded Beaver Dam 56-42.  Briana Gray led all scorers with 22 Points.  Sara Travia and Michelle Peltz each added 6.  The Nicolet Girls Basketball Team says good-bye to seven seniors... Briana Gray, Lanoira Duhart, Sara Travia, Michelle Peltz, Brooke Silverburg, Katherine Richter and Jordy Borneman.  This senior lead team worked hard and played hard all season.  The examples they set on the court and in the classroom should be an inspiration to all of the underclassmen in the program.  The team finished 13-11 overall and in 5th place in the conference with an 8-6 conference record.

The NHS Varsity Cheerleaders: The Nicolet Varsity Cheerleading Team competed at the Cardinal Classic in Sun Prairie, WI on Sunday. Teams from all over the state, including State champions Grafton HS and National qualifiers from Iowa competed in the two varsity divisions.  The girls' won the Grand Champion 1st place award for the Varsity non-tumble division. This is the last event of the season for the cheerleading team who has earned a 4th place stunt finish in December's Badger Invite at Badger HS and a 1st place finish in small Varsity at the Valentines Cheer-off hosted at Nicolet HS in February. The team graduates two seniors this year, captain Iyana Turner and Carina Hightower. There are 13 members of the Varsity squad, 11 (8 freshman, 3 sophomores) of which will be returning for the 2013-2014 season. Congratulations to this young team and to its seniors. Go Knights!

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, March 6th at 7pm in room B113.  Their next big fundraiser is Saturday, April 13th.  The Boosters will team with Heiser Ford on "Drive for Your School!"  Beginning at approximately 10am, each household that tests drives a Heiser Ford vehicle will earn Nicolet athletics $20.  There will be plenty for your family to do while you test drive a Ford.  Free sports clinics will be offered for basketball, dance, wrestling, pole vault, football, softball, volleyball, gymnastics and much much more.  While you are on your test drive, we will wash your car and there will be food cooking in the concession stand.  There will be a raffle drawing and Nicolet spirit wear available for sale as well.  SAVE THE DATE: APRIL 13TH "DRIVE FOR YOUR SCHOOL!"

Please save the date for the 5th Annual Nicolet Athletic Golf Outing Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at the Fire Ridge Golf Club in Grafton.  The past four golf outings have raised more than $50,000 for the Nicolet Athletic Department! We need your help again.  We are looking for golfers, donations and silent auction items.  Please mark this date on your calendar and stay tuned for more details.
