Just in Time for Summer

Although "Over Easy" was recorded on one of the coldest days in January, it's appropriate that its recent release coincides with the onset of "Summertime," the first of 14 tracks on the smooth jazz CD. It was serendipity that led to the album and my getting back into jazz after a very long hiatus that began about the time WTMJ radio gave up its house band and twice-daily live music programming. My husband and I hired the Dan Dance Trio to play for a private party at which I sang a few songs. Dan and I found ourselves to be on the same musical page and the next thing you know, "Over Easy" was a project in the works as we started putting my old song list back together. With Dan on the piano, me on vocals, Dave Bayles on drums, Jeff Hamann on bass and Jason Goldsmith on sax, the CD was recorded in a single, exhausting, seven-hour-long session. We -- Mary Fran Cahill with the Dan Dance Trio +1 -- wanted it to sound as close to live as possible and we think we succeeded. Where do we go from here? First off, we hope people buy "Over Easy," and have as much fun listening to our music as we did putting the album together. From "Summertime" to the late Marvin Hamlisch's moving "One Song," the final track we put our hearts into our music. Most of the tunes harken back to the hey day of jazz -- the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s -- but with some modern twists. Unless you're way under Boomer age, they're great to sing along or dance to. You'll find us on CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes, where you can preview and purchase the album. And, one of these days, we just might "go live." Stay tuned!
