Boater's Safety Certification Required Before Hitting Wisconsin Waterways

If you need a boating safety class, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a WI DNR Safe Boating Class at Nicolet High School in June.

The Wisconsin legislature has recently passed a Mandatory Boating Education bill. This bill requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1989, and at least 16 years of age, to have a boating safety education certificate to operate a motorboat on Wisconsin’s waterways.

If you need a boating safety class, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a WI DNR Safe Boating Class at . Completion of the class and passing the class exam will satisfy the DNR requirement for the Mandatory Education.

New requirement: all WI Recreational Safety Students are required to obtain a WI DNR Customer ID Number before the completion of any Recreational Safety Class and will also be required to provide that WI DNR Customer ID Number along with students personal information to the instructor. You can obtain a WI DNR Customer ID Number 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. by calling the WI DNR Customer Service at 1-888-936-7463 or you can visit a WI DNR Service Center during their regular scheduled hours. For WI DNR Service Center hours and locations, please visit their website.
